DOHRA,

ਲੋਪ ਚੰਡਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਗਈ ਸੁਰਪਤਿ ਕੌ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ॥

lop cha(n)ddakaa hoi giee surapat kau dhe raaj ||

ਇੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਗਈ।

In this way Chandika disappeared after bestowing the kingship on Indra.,

ਦਾਨਵ ਮਾਰਿ ਅਭੇਖ ਕਰਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾਜ ॥੫੩॥

dhaanav maar abhekh kar keene sa(n)tan kaaj ||53||

(ਚੰਡੀ ਨੇ) ਦੈਂਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਬੇਹਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤਾ (ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਦਾ) ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੫੩॥

She killed the demons and destroyed them for the well-being of the saints.53.,

ਸ੍ਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਸ੍ਵੈਯਾ:

SWAYYA,

ਯਾ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਹਾ ਮੁਨ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੇ ਤਪ ਮੈ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

yaa te prasa(n)n bhe hai mahaa mun dhevan ke tap mai sukh paavai ||

(ਦੈਂਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ) ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਤੇਜ-ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ ਹਨ।

The great sages became pleased and received comfort in meditating on the gods.,

ਜਗ੍ਯ ਕਰੈ ਇਕ ਬੇਦ ਰਰੈ ਭਵ ਤਾਪ ਹਰੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਧਿਆਨਹਿ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

jagay karai ik bedh rarai bhav taap harai mil dhiaaneh laavai ||

(ਕਈ) ਯੱਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਈ ਵੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਈ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹਰਿ ਵਿਚ) ਧਿਆਨ ਲਗਾਉਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

The sacrifices are being performed, the Vedas are being recited and for the removal of suffering, contemplation is being done together.,

ਝਾਲਰ ਤਾਲ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਉਪੰਗ ਰਬਾਬ ਲੀਏ ਸੁਰ ਸਾਜ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥

jhaalar taal miradha(n)g upa(n)g rabaab le'ee sur saaj milaavai ||

(ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਘੰਟੇ, ਛੈਣੇ, ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ, ਉਪੰਗ (ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਵਾਜਾ) ਰਬਾਬ ਆਦਿ ਜਿਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇਕ-ਸੁਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The tunes of various musical instruments like cymbals big and small, trumpet, kettledrum and Rabab are being made harmonies.,

ਕਿੰਨਰ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਗਾਨ ਕਰੈ ਗਨਿ ਜਛ ਅਪਛਰ ਨਿਰਤ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥੫੪॥

ki(n)nar ga(n)dhrab gaan karai gan jachh apachhar nirat dhikhaavai ||54||

(ਕਿਤੇ) ਕਿੰਨਰ ਅਤੇ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ (ਕਿਤੇ) ਯਕਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਅਪੱਛਰਾਵਾ ਨਾਚ ਕਰਕੇ ਵਿਖਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੫੪॥

Somewhere the Kinnars and Gandharvas are singing and somewhere the Ganas, Yakshas and Apsaras are dancing.54.,

ਸੰਖਨ ਕੀ ਧੁਨ ਘੰਟਨਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਫੂਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਬਰਖਾਵੈ ॥

sa(n)khan kee dhun gha(n)Tan kee kar foolan kee barakhaa barakhaavai ||

ਸੰਖਾ ਅਤੇ ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗੁੰਜਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਫੁਲਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

With the sound of conches and gongs, they are causing the rain of flowers.,

ਆਰਤੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰੈ ਸੁਰ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਪੇਖ ਪੁਰੰਦਰ ਕੇ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

aaratee koT karai sur su(n)dhar pekh pura(n)dhar ke bal jaavai ||

(ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ) ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ।

Millions of gods fully decorated, are performing aarti (circumambulation) and seeing Indra, they show intense devotion.,

ਦਾਨਤ ਦਛਨ ਦੈ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਦਛਨ ਭਾਲ ਮੈ ਕੁੰਕਮ ਅਛਤ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

dhaanat dhachhan dhai kai pradhachhan bhaal mai ku(n)kam achhat laavai ||

(ਉਦੋਂ) ਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੱਛਣਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਖਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਇੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਕੇਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਵਲਾ (ਦਾ ਤਿਲਕ) ਲਗਾਉਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Giving gifts and performing circumambulation around Indra, they are applying the frontal –mark of saffron and rice on their foreheads.,

ਹੋਤ ਕੁਲਾਹਲ ਦੇਵਪੁਰੀ ਮਿਲ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੇ ਕੁਲਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੫੫॥

hot kulaahal dhevapuree mil dhevan ke kul ma(n)gal gaavai ||55||

(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ) ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਧੁੰਮ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੰਗਲਮਈ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੫੫॥

In all the city of gods, there is much excitement and the families of gods are singing songs of feliciations.55.,

ਐਸੇ ਚੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਨ ਬਢਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ॥

aaise cha(n)dd prataap te dhevan baddio prataap ||

ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਚੰਡੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵੱਧ ਗਿਆ

In this way, through the Glory of Chandi, the splendour of gods increased.,

ਤੀਨ ਲੋਕ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਰੈ ਰਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿ ਜਾਪ ॥੫੬॥

teen lok jai jai karai rarai naam sat jaap ||56||

ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਲੋਕ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੀ ਜੈ-ਜੈ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ('ਮਾਰਕੰਡੇਯ ਪੁਰਾਣ' ਦੀ) ਸੱਤਸਈ (ਵਿਚਲੇ) ਨਾਵਾ (ਦੇ ਸਤੋਤ੍ਰ ਦਾ) ਜਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ ॥੫੬॥

All the there worlds are rejoicing and the sound of the recitation of True Name is being heard.56.,

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਹੇ ਰਵਿ ਹੇ ਸਸਿ ਹੇ ਕਰੁਨਾਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਬੈ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥

he rav he sas he karunaanidh meree abai binatee sun leejai ||

ਹੇ ਸੂਰਜ! ਹੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ! ਹੇ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਗਰ! ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ ਲਵੋ।

O Surya! O Chandra! O merciful Lord! listen to a request of mine, I am not asking for anything else from you

ਅਉਰ ਨ ਮਾਗਤ ਹਉ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਹਉ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸੋਈ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

aaur na maagat hau tum te kachh chaahat hau chit mai soiee keejai ||

ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ, ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾ ਉਹੀ (ਪੂਰੀ) ਕਰ ਦਿਓ।

Whatever I wish in my mind, by that with Thy Grace

ਸਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੋ ਕਹਿ ਸਾਚ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥

sasatran so at hee ran bheetar joojh maro keh saach pateejai ||

ਬਹੁਤ ਵਡੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਲੜ ਮਰਾ', ਸਚ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾ, ਨਿਸਚਾ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ।

If I fall a martyr while fighting with my enemies then I shall think that I have realised Truth

ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਗ ਮਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਇਹੈ ਵਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੧੯੦੦॥

sa(n)t sahai sadhaa jag mai kirapaa kar sayaam ihai var dheejai ||1900||

ਹੇ ਸੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਤਾ! ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਕਵੀ) ਸ਼ਿਆਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੋ ਵਰ ਦਿਓ ॥੧੯੦੦॥

O Sustainer of the Universe! I may always help the saints in this world and destroy the tyrants, bestow this boon on me.1900.

ਕਬਿਤੁ ॥

KABIT

ਸੰਕਟ ਹਰਨ ਸਭ ਸਿਧਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਨ ਚੰਡ ਤਾਰਨ ਤਰਨ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਚਨ ਬਿਸਾਲ ਹੈ ॥

sa(n)kaT haran sabh sidh kee karan cha(n)dd taaran taran ar lochan bisaal hai ||

ਚੰਡਿਕਾ (ਦੁਰਗਾ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕਸ਼ਟਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ (ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਸਿੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ, (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।

The large-eyed Chandika is the remover of all sufferings, the donor of powers and support of the helpless in ferrying across the fearful ocean of the world

ਆਦਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਆਹਮ ਹੈ ਅੰਤ ਕੋ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਉਬਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਹੈ ॥

aadh jaa kai aaham hai a(n)t ko na paaraavaar saran ubaaran karan pratipaal hai ||

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਦਾ (ਪਤਾ ਲਗਾ ਸਕਣਾ) ਕਠਿਨ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ) ਅੰਤ ਦਾ ਆਰ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਜੋ) ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ,

It is difficult to know her beginning and end, she emancipates and sustains him, who takes refuge in her,

ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰਨ ਅਨਿਕ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਰਨ ਸੋ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਛਡਾਏ ਜਮ ਜਾਲ ਹੈ ॥

asur sa(n)ghaaran anik dhukh jaaran so patit udhaaran chhaddaae jam jaal hai ||

(ਜੋ) ਦੈਂਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਅਨੇਕਾ ਦੁਖਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਮਾ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਛੁੜਾ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।

She destroys the demons, finishes various types of desires and saves from the noose of death

ਦੇਵੀ ਬਰੁ ਲਾਇਕ ਸੁਬੁਧਿ ਹੂ ਕੀ ਦਾਇਕ ਸੁ ਦੇਹ ਬਰੁ ਪਾਇਕ ਬਨਾਵੈ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਹਾਲ ਹੈ ॥੭॥

dhevee bar laik subudh hoo kee dhaik su dheh bar paik banaavai gra(n)th haal hai ||7||

ਦੁਰਗਾ ਵਰ (ਦੇਣ) ਯੋਗ ਹੈ, ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਵਰ ਦੇਣ ਨਾਲ ਦਾਸ (ਇਸ) ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਨੂੰ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਗਾ ॥੭॥

The same goddess is capable of bestowing the boon and good intellect by her Grace this Granth can be composed.7.

ਕਬਿਤੁ ॥

ਕਬਿੱਤ:

KAVIT

ਮਿਲਿ ਕੇ ਸੁ ਦੇਵਨ ਬਡਾਈ ਕਰੀ ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਕੀ ਏਹੋ ਜਗ ਮਾਤ ਤੈ ਤੋ ਕਟਿਓ ਬਡੋ ਪਾਪੁ ਹੈ ॥

mil ke su dhevan baddaiee karee kaalikaa kee eho jag maat tai to kaTio baddo paap hai ||

(ਸਾਰੇ) ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਦੇਵੀ (ਕਾਲਕਾ) ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਜਗਤਮਾਤਾ! ਤੂੰ ਤਾ (ਸਾਡਾ) ਵੱਡਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

All the gods gathered and sang this Eulogy in praise of the goddess: “O Universal mother, Thou hast effaced a very great sin

ਦੈਤਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਰ ਰਾਜ ਦੀਨੋ ਤੈ ਸੁਰੇਸ ਹੂੰ ਕੋ ਬਡੋ ਜਸੁ ਲੀਨੇ ਜਗਿ ਤੇਰੋ ਈ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਹੈ ॥

dhaitan ke maar raaj dheeno tai sures hoo(n) ko baddo jas leene jag tero iee prataap hai ||

(ਤੂੰ) ਦੈਂਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਇੰਦਰ ('ਸੁਰੇਸ') ਨੂੰ (ਸੁਅਰਗ ਦਾ) ਰਾਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। (ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ) ਬਹੁਤ ਯਸ਼ ਖਟਿਆ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਜਗ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ (ਪਸਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ।

“Thou hast bestowed on Indra the kingdom of heaven by killing the demons, Thou hast earned great repulations and Thy glory hath spread in the world.

ਦੇਤ ਹੈ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿਜ ਰਾਜ ਰਿਖਿ ਬਾਰਿ ਬਾਰਿ ਤਹਾ ਹੀ ਪੜਿਓ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਉਚ ਹੂੰ ਕੋ ਜਾਪ ਹੈ ॥

dhet hai asees dhij raaj rikh baar baar tahaa hee paRio hai braham kauch hoo(n) ko jaap hai ||

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ('ਦਿਜ ਰਾਜ') ਰਾਜ-ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਅਸੀਸਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ 'ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਕਵਚ' (ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਵਿਚ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਸਤੋਤ੍ਰ) ਜਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਰਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

“All the sages, spiritual as well as royal bless Thee again and again, they have revited there the mantra called ‘Brahm-Kavach’ (the spiritual coat of mail).”

ਐਸੇ ਜਸੁ ਪੂਰ ਰਹਿਓ ਚੰਡਿਕਾ ਕੋ ਤੀਨ ਲੋਕਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਧਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਮੈ ਗੰਗਾ ਜੀ ਕੋ ਆਪੁ ਹੈ ॥੨੨੭॥

aaise jas poor rahio cha(n)ddikaa ko teen lok jaise dhaar saagar mai ga(n)gaa jee ko aap hai ||227||

ਤਿੰਨਾ ਲੋਕਾ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਡੀ ਦਾ ਯਸ਼ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾ ਵਿਚ ਗੰਗਾ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਜਲ ('ਆਪੁ') ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੨੭॥

The praise of Chandika pervades thus in all the three worlds like the merging of the pure water of the ganges in the current of the ocean.227.

ਸ੍ਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਤਾਰਨ ਲੋਕ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਭੂਮਹਿ ਦੈਤ ਸੰਘਾਰਨ ਚੰਡ ਤੁਹੀ ਹੈ ॥

taaran lok udhaaran bhoomeh dhait sa(n)ghaaran cha(n)dd tuhee hai ||

ਲੋਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ, ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਦਾ ਉੱਧਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ, ਦੈਂਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਘਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ (ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।

Thou art the same Chandika, who ferries across the people. Thou art the redeemer of the earth and destroyer of the demons.

ਕਾਰਨ ਈਸ ਕਲਾ ਕਮਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਅਦ੍ਰਸੁਤਾ ਜਹ ਦੇਖੇ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ॥

(ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਕਾਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਲੱਛਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਰੂਪ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਜਿਥੇ ਵੇਖੋ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ।

Thou art the cause of the Shakti of Shiva, Lakshmi of Vishnu and Parvati, the daughter of Himavan, wherever we see, Thou art there.

ਤਾਮਸਤਾ ਮਮਤਾ ਨਮਤਾ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਕਵਿ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਮੱਧਿ ਗੁਹੀ ਹੈ ॥

taamasataa mamataa namataa kavitaa kav ke man ma'dh guhee hai ||

(ਤੂੰ ਹੀ) ਤਮੋ, ਰਜੋ ਅਤੇ ਸਤੋ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਗੁਣਾ (ਦੇ ਸਾਰ ਰੂਪ) ਕਵਿਤਾ ਕਵੀ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

Thou art Tams, the quality of morbidity, mineness and modesty. Thou art poetry, latent in the mind of the poet.

ਕੀਨੋ ਹੈ ਕੰਚਨ ਲੋਹ ਜਗਤ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਪਾਰਸ ਮੂਰਤ ਜਾਇ ਛੁਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥

keeno hai ka(n)chan loh jagatr mai paaras moorat jai chhuhee hai ||4||

(ਤੂੰ) ਪਾਰਸ-ਮੂਰਤੀ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਛੋਹ ਗਈ, ਉਹ ਲੋਹੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ॥੪॥

Thou art the philosopher’s stone in the world, which transforms the iron into gold that it touches.4.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਾਇ ਭਯੋ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸੁ ਜਾਗਤ ਯਾ ਜਗ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਹੈ ॥

kaal hee pai bhayo bhagavaan su jaagat yaa jag jaa kee kalaa hai ||

ਕਾਲ (ਸਮਾ) ਪਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਭਗਵਾਨ (ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ) ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਲਾ (ਸ਼ਕਤੀ) ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਜਾਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਗਤੀਮਾਨ ਹੈ)।

At the instance of KAL, Vishnu appeared, whose power is manifested through the world.

ਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਾਇ ਭਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਸਿਵ ਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਾਇ ਭਯੋ ਜੁਗੀਆ ਹੈ ॥

kaal hee pai bhayo brahamaa siv kaal hee pai bhayo jugeeaa hai ||

ਕਾਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਯੋਗੀ ਹੋਇਆ।

At the instance of KAL, Brahma appeared and also at the instance of KAL the Yogi Shiva appeared.

ਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਾਇ ਸੁਰਾਸੁਰ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਜੱਛ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਦਿਸਾ ਬਿਦਿਸਾ ਹੈ ॥

kaal hee pai suraasur ga(n)dhrab ja'chh bhuja(n)g dhisaa bidhisaa hai ||

ਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਦੈਂਤ, ਗੰਧਰਬ, ਯਕਸ਼, ਸੱਪ, ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਈਆਂ।

At the instance of KAL, the gods, demons, Gandharvas, Yakshas, Bhujang, directions and indications have appeared.

ਔਰ ਸੁਕਾਲ ਸਭੈ ਬਸ ਕਾਲ ਕੇ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਕਾਲ ਅਕਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮੪॥

aauar sukaal sabhai bas kaal ke ek hee kaal akaal sadhaa hai ||84||

ਹੋਰ ਜੋ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ('ਸੁਕਾਲ') ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ, ਬਸ ਇਕੋ ਮਹਾਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ॥੮੪॥

All the other prevalent object are within KAL, only One supreme KAL is ever Timeless and eternal.84.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਮੇਰੁ ਕਰੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਤੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਨ ਦੂਸਰ ਤੋ ਸੋ ॥

mer karo tiran te muh jaeh gareeb nivaaj na dhoosar to so ||

ਮੇਰੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਤਿਨਕੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਮੇਰ ਪਰਬਤ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ-ਨਿਵਾਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

There is no other support for the poor except Thee, who hath made me a mountain from a straw.

ਭੂਲ ਛਿਮੋ ਹਮਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਨ ਭੂਲਨਹਾਰ ਕਹੂੰ ਕੋਊ ਮੋ ਸੋ ॥

bhool chhimo hamaree prabh aapan bhoolanahaar kahoo(n) kouoo mo so ||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੁਲ ਬਖਸ਼ ਦਿਓ (ਕਿਉਾਂਕਿ) ਮੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੁਲਣਹਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

O Lord! Forgive me for my mistakes, because who is there so much blunderhead like me?

ਸੇਵ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਦੇਖੀਅਤ ਦ੍ਰਬ ਭਰੋ ਸੋ ॥

sev karee tumaree tin ke sabh hee gireh dhekheeat dhrab bharo so ||

(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਿਸਦੇ ਹਨ।

Those who have served Thee, there seems wealth and self-confidence in all there homes.

ਯਾ ਕਲ ਮੈਂ ਸਭ ਕਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਭੁਜਾਨ ਕੋ ਭਾਰੀ ਭਰੋਸੋ ॥੯੨॥

yaa kal mai(n) sabh kaal kirapaan ke bhaaree bhujaan ko bhaaree bharoso ||92||

ਇਸ ਕਲਿਯੁਗ ਵਿਚ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) (ਮਹਾ) ਕਾਲ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰੀਆਂ ਭੁਜਾਵਾ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ ॥੯੨॥

In this Iron age, the supreme trust is only for KAL, Who is the Sword-incarnate and hath mighty arms.92.

ਸ੍ਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਭਾਜਿ ਗਇਓ ਮਘਵਾ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਡਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤੇ ਆਦਿ ਸਭੈ ਭੈ ਭੀਤੇ ॥

bhaaj gio maghavaa jin ke ddar braham te aadh sabhai bhai bheete ||

ਜਿਨ੍ਰਹਾ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ ਇੰਦਰ ('ਮਘਵਾ') ਭਜ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭੈਭੀਤ ਸਨ,

With whose fear Indra had fied from heaven and Brahma and other gods, had been filled with fear.,

ਤੇਈ ਵੈ ਦੈਤ ਪਰਾਇ ਗਏ ਰਨਿ ਹਾਰ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਭਏ ਬਲੁ ਰੀਤੇ ॥

teiee vai dhait parai ge ran haar nihaar bhe bal reete ||

ਉਹੀ ਦੈਂਤ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਾਰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਲਹੀਨ ਹੋਏ ਭਜ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

The same demons, seeing defeat in the battlefield, being devoid of their power had run away.,

ਜੰਬੁਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਝ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਭਏ ਬਨ ਬਾਸ ਗਏ ਜੁਗ ਜਾਮਨ ਬੀਤੇ ॥

ja(n)buk girajh niraas bhe ban baas ge jug jaaman beete ||

ਗਿਦੜ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਰਝਾ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ (ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਕੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਅਜੇ) ਦੋ ਪਹਿਰ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੀਤੇ ਹਨ।

The jackals and vultures, having been dejected, have returned to the forest, even the two watches of the day have not elapsed.

ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਗ ਮਾਇ ਸੁ ਸੁੰਭ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਬਡੇ ਅਰਿ ਜੀਤੇ ॥੨੨੫॥

sa(n)t sahai sadhaa jag mai su su(n)bh nisu(n)bh badde ar jeete ||225||

ਸੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਜਗਮਾਤਾ (ਚੰਡੀ) ਨੇ ਸ਼ੁੰਭ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਸ਼ੁੰਭ ਵਡੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਜਿਤ ਲਏ ਹਨ ॥੨੨੫॥

The mother of the world (goddess), ever the protector of saints, hath conquered the great enemies Sumbh and Nisumbh.225.

ਦੇਵ ਸਭੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਇਕ ਠਉਰ ਸੁ ਅਛਤ ਕੁੰਕਮ ਚੰਦਨ ਲੀਨੋ ॥

dhev sabhai mil kai ik Thaur su achhat ku(n)kam cha(n)dhan leeno ||

ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਥਾ ਇਕਤਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਵਲ ਕੇਸਰ ਤੇ ਚੰਦਨ ਲੈ ਕੇ

All the gods gathering at one place and taking rice, saffron and sandalwood.

ਤਛਨ ਲਛਨ ਦੈ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਦਛਨ ਟੀਕਾ ਸੁ ਚੰਡਿ ਕੇ ਭਾਲ ਮੈ ਦੀਨੋ ॥

tachhan lachhan dhai kai pradhachhan Teekaa su cha(n)dd ke bhaal mai dheeno ||

ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਲੱਖਾ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਖਣਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਤਿਲਕ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

Lakhs of gods, circumambulating the goddess immeditately applied the frontal mark (of victory) on her forehead.

ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੋ ਉਪਜ੍ਯੋ ਤਹ ਭਾਵ ਇਹੈ ਕਵਿ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਲਖਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥

taa chhab ko upajayo teh bhaav ihai kav ne man mai lakh leeno ||

ਉਸ (ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀ) ਛਬੀ (ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਜੋ ਭਾਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਵੀ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਜਾਣਿਆ,

The glory of that event hath been imagined by the poet in his mind like this:

ਮਾਨਹੁ ਚੰਦ ਕੈ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੈ ਸੁਭ ਮੰਗਲ ਆਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸਹਿ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੨੨੬॥

maanahu cha(n)dh kai ma(n)ddal mai subh ma(n)gal aan praveseh keeno ||226||

ਮਾਨੋ ਚੰਦਰ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਮੰਗਲ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ) ॥੨੨੬॥

It seemed that in the sphere of the moon, the period of “propitious rejoicings” hath penetrated. 226.

ਦੇਹਿ ਅਸੀਸ ਸਭੈ ਸੁਰ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਆਰਤੀ ਦੀਪ ਜਗਾਇਓ ॥

dheh asees sabhai sur naar sudhaar kai aaratee dheep jagaio ||

ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇਵ-ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ (ਚੰਡੀ ਨੂੰ) ਅਸੀਸਾ ਦਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਤੀ ਸਿਰਜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਦੀਪਕ ਜਗਾਏ ਹਨ।

All the women of the gods bless the goddess and performing the aarti (the religious ceremony performed around the image of the deity) they have lighted the lamps.

ਫੂਲ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਸੁਅਛਤ ਦਛਨ ਜਛਨ ਜੀਤ ਕੋ ਗੀਤ ਸੁ ਗਾਇਓ ॥

fool suga(n)dh suachhat dhachhan jachhan jeet ko geet su gaio ||

ਫੁਲਾ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਵਲ ਵਾਰਦੀਆਂ ('ਦੱਛਨ') ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਯਕਸ਼-ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ('ਜੱਛਨ') ਜਿਤ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਣਾਉਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

They offer flowers, fragrance and rice and the women of Yakshas sing songs of victory.

ਧੂਪ ਜਗਾਇ ਕੈ ਸੰਖ ਬਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਸੀਸ ਨਿਵਾਇ ਕੈ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਨਾਇਓ ॥

dhoop jagai kai sa(n)kh bajai kai sees nivai kai bain sunaio ||

ਧੂਪ ਜਗਾ ਕੇ, ਸੰਖ ਵਜਾ ਕੇ, ਸਿਰ ਝੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ

They burn the incence and blow the conch and supplicate bowing their heads.

ਹੇ ਜਗ ਮਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦਾਇ ਤੈ ਸੁੰਭ ਕੋ ਘਾਇ ਬਡੋ ਜਸੁ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੨੨੮॥

he jag mai sadhaa sukh dhai tai su(n)bh ko ghai baddo jas paio ||228||

ਕਿ ਹੇ ਜਗਤਮਾਤਾ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ੁੰਭ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਯਸ਼ ਖਟਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨੨੮॥

“O Universal mother, ever Giver of the comfort, by killing Sumbh, Thou hast earned a great approhbation.”228.

ਸਕ੍ਰਹਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੈ ਚੰਡ ਸੁ ਮੋਦ ਮਹਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਰਈ ਹੈ ॥

sakreh saaj samaaj dhai cha(n)dd su modh mahaa man maeh riee hai ||

ਇੰਦਰ ('ਸਕ੍ਰ') ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।

Giving all the royal paraphernalia to Indra, Chandi is very much pleased in her mind.

ਸੂਰ ਸਸੀ ਨਭਿ ਥਾਪ ਕੈ ਤੇਜੁ ਦੇ ਆਪ ਤਹਾ ਤੇ ਸੁ ਲੋਪ ਭਈ ਹੈ ॥

soor sasee nabh thaap kai tej dhe aap tahaa te su lop bhiee hai ||

ਸੂਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਸਥਿਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਜ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਚੰਡੀ) ਆਪ ਉਥੋਂ ਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਗਈ।

Sabilising the sun and moon in the sky and making them glorious, she herself hath disappeared.

ਬੀਚ ਅਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ਬਢਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥

beech akaas prakaas baddio teh kee upamaa man te na giee hai ||

ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ (ਸੂਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਦਾ) ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਵਧ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸ (ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼) ਦੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਵੀ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

The light of sun and moon hath increased in the sky, the powt hath not forgotten its comparison from his mind.

ਧੂਰਿ ਕੈ ਪੂਰ ਮਲੀਨ ਹੁਤੋ ਰਵਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਚੰਡਿਕਾ ਓਪ ਦਈ ਹੈ ॥੨੨੯॥

dhoor kai poor maleen huto rav maanahu cha(n)ddikaa op dhiee hai ||229||

(ਲੜਾਈ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਠੀ) ਧੂੜ ਦੇ ਪਸਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੂਰਜ ('ਰਵਿ') ਮਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਮਾਨੋ ਚੰਡੀ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਤੇਜ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਚਮਕਦਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ) ॥੨੨੯॥

It seemed that the sun had become filthy with dust and the goddess Chandi hath given him the splendour.229.

dheh sivaa bar moh ihai subh karaman te kabahoo(n) na Taro ||

ਹੇ ਸ਼ਿਵਾ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵਰ ਦੇ ਕਿ (ਮੈਂ) ਸ਼ੁਭ ਕੰਮਾ (ਨੂੰ ਕਰਨੋਂ) ਨਾ ਟਲਾ।

O Goddess, grant me this that I may not hesitate from performing good actions.

ਨ ਡਰੋ ਅਰਿ ਸੋ ਜਬ ਜਾਇ ਲਰੋ ਨਿਸਚੈ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਜੀਤ ਕਰੋ ॥

n ddaro ar so jab jai laro nisachai kar apunee jeet karo ||

ਜਦੋਂ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਾਲ (ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਲੜਾ ਤਾ (ਜ਼ਰਾ) ਨਾ ਡਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਾ।

I may not fear the enemy, when I go to fight and assuredly I may become victorious.

ਅਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਹੌ ਆਪਨੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਲਾਲਚ ਹਉ ਗੁਨ ਤਉ ਉਚਰੋ ॥

ar sikh hau aapane hee man ko ieh laalach hau gun tau ucharo ||

ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੇਵਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਇਹ ਲਾਲਚ (ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਾ।

And I may give this instruction to my mind and have this tempotration that I may ever utter Thy Praises.

ਜਬ ਆਵ ਕੀ ਅਉਧ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਬਨੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤਬ ਜੂਝ ਮਰੋ ॥੨੩੧॥

jab aav kee aaudh nidhaan banai at hee ran mai tab joojh maro ||231||

ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸਮਾ ਆ ਜਾਏ ਤਾ ਅਤਿ ਦੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਲੜਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਰ ਜਾਵਾ ॥੨੩੧॥

When the end of my life comes, then I may die fighting in the battlefield.231.

ਚੰਡਿ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਵਿਤਨ ਮੈ ਬਰਨਿਓ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਰਸ ਰੁਦ੍ਰਮਈ ਹੈ ॥

ਚੰਡੀ-ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਕਥਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। (ਇਹ) ਸਾਰੀ (ਕਵਿਤਾ) ਰੌਦਰਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੈ।

I have narrated this Chandi Charitra in poetry, which is all full of Rudra Rasa (sentiment of ragge).

ਏਕ ਤੇ ਏਕ ਰਸਾਲ ਭਇਓ ਨਖ ਤੇ ਸਿਖ ਲਉ ਉਪਮਾ ਸੁ ਨਈ ਹੈ ॥

ek te ek rasaal bhio nakh te sikh lau upamaa su niee hai ||

ਇਕ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ (ਉਕਤੀ) ਰਸ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਦਿ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਤ ਤਕ (ਪੈਰਾ ਦੇ ਨਹੁੰਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਿਰ ਦੀ ਚੋਟੀ ਤਕ) ਹਰ ਉਪਮਾ ਨਵੀਂ ਹੈ।

The stanzas one and all, are beautifully composed, which contain new sillies from beginning to end.

ਕਉਤਕ ਹੇਤੁ ਕਰੀ ਕਵਿ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਸਯ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਇਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਭਈ ਹੈ ॥

kautak het karee kav ne satisay kee kathaa ieh pooree bhiee hai ||

ਕਵੀ ਨੇ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਵਿਲਾਸ ('ਕਉਤਕ') ਲਈ ਇਕ ਕਾਵਿ-ਰਚਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। 'ਸਤਸਈ' ਦੀ ਇਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਥਾ ਵਰਣਿਤ ਹੈ।

The poet hath composed it for the pleasure of his mind, and the discourse of seven hundred sholokas is completed here.

ਜਾਹਿ ਨਮਿਤ ਪੜੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਹੈ ਨਰ ਸੋ ਨਿਸਚੈ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਦਈ ਹੈ ॥੨੩੨॥

jaeh namit paRai sun hai nar so nisachai kar taeh dhiee hai ||232||

ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੋਰਥ) ਲਈ (ਕੋਈ) ਪੁਰਸ਼ (ਇਸ ਰਚਨਾ ਨੂੰ) ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਣੇਗਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਵਸ਼ ਹੀ (ਦੇਵੀ) ਉਹੀ (ਵਰ) ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰੇਗੀ ॥੨੩੨॥

For whatever purpose a person ready it or listens to it, the hgoddess will assuredly grant him that.232.

ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਤਿ ਸਇਆ ਕੋ ਕਰਿਓ ਜਾ ਸਮ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

gra(n)th sat siaa ko kario jaa sam avar na koi ||

(ਮੈਂ) 'ਸਤਸਈ' (ਦੁਰਗਾ ਸਪਤਸ਼ਤੀ) ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਗ੍ਰੰਥ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

I have translated the book named Satsayya (a poem of seven hundred shalokas), which hath nothing equal to it.

ਜਿਹ ਨਮਿਤ ਕਵਿ ਨੇ ਕਹਿਓ ਸੁ ਦੇਹ ਚੰਡਿਕਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੨੩੩॥

ਹੇ ਚੰਡਿਕਾ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਲਈ ਕਵੀ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਕਥਾ) ਕਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਹੀ (ਮਨੋਰਥ) ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੋ ॥੨੩੩॥

The purpose for which the poet hath comosed it, Chandi may grant him the same.233.

I salute the Glorious SWORD with all my heart’s affection.

ਖਗ ਖੰਡ ਬਿਹੰਡੰ ਖਲ ਦਲ ਖੰਡੰ ਅਤਿ ਰਣ ਮੰਡੰ ਬਰ ਬੰਡੰ ॥

khag kha(n)dd biha(n)dda(n) khal dhal kha(n)dda(n) at ran ma(n)dda(n) bar ba(n)dda(n) ||

ਤਲਵਾਰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰਾ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾ ਦੇ ਦਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਯੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਸਜਤਿ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਅਜਿਹੀ) ਬਲਵਾਨ ਹੈ।

The sword chops well, chops the forces of fools and this mighty one bedecks and glorifies the battlefield.

ਭੁਜ ਦੰਡ ਅਖੰਡੰ ਤੇਜ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਮੰਡੰ ਭਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ॥

bhuj dha(n)dd akha(n)dda(n) tej pracha(n)dda(n) jot ama(n)dda(n) bhaan prabha(n) ||

ਇਹ ਅਖੰਡ ਤੇਜ ਵਾਲੀ ਭੁਜਦੰਡ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਤੇਜ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਕਿਆ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

It is the unbreakable staff of the arm, it has the powerful luster and its light even bedims the radiance of the sum.

ਸੁਖ ਸੰਤਾ ਕਰਣੰ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦਰਣੰ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਹਰਣੰ ਅਸਿ ਸਰਣੰ ॥

sukh sa(n)taa karana(n) dhuramat dharana(n) kilabikh harana(n) as sarana(n) ||

(ਇਹ) ਸੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ, ਮਾੜੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਲਣ ਵਾਲੀ, ਪਾਪਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, (ਮੈਂ) ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਾ।

It brings happiness to the saints, mashing the vicious ones, it is the destroyer of sins and I and under its refuge.

ਜੈ ਜੈ ਜਗ ਕਾਰਣ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਬਾਰਣ ਮਮ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਣ ਜੈ ਤੇਗੰ ॥੨॥

jai jai jag kaaran sirasaT ubaaran mam pratipaaran jai tega(n) ||2||

ਹੇ ਜਗ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਰੂਪ! ਤੇਰੀ ਜੈ-ਜੈਕਾਰ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਕਿਉਕਿ ਤੂੰ) ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਬਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ, (ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ) ਹੇ ਤੇਗ! ਜੈ ਜੈ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੨॥

Hail, hail to the cause of the world, saviour of the universe, it is my preserver, I hail its victory. 2.

ਰੋਗਨ ਤੇ ਅਰ ਸੋਗਨ ਤੇ ਜਲ ਜੋਗਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਬਚਾਵੈ ॥

rogan te ar sogan te jal jogan te bahu bhaa(n)t bachaavai ||

(ਉਹ) ਰੋਗਾ ਤੋਂ, ਸੋਗਾ ਤੋਂ, ਜਲ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ-ਜੰਤੂਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਨੇਕ ਢੰਗਾ ਨਾਲ ਬਚਾਉਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He protects in many blows, but none doth inflict thy body.

ਸੱਤ੍ਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਚਲਾਵਤ ਘਾਵ ਤਊ ਤਨ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

sa'tr anek chalaavat ghaav tuoo tan ek na laagan paavai ||

ਵੈਰੀ ਅਨੇਕ ਵਾਰ (ਹਥਿਆਰ) ਚਲਾਵੇ, (ਪਰ) ਤਾ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਇਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗ ਸਕਦਾ।

The enemy strikes many blows, but none doth inflict thy body.

ਰਾਖਤ ਹੈ ਅਪਨੋ ਕਰੁ ਦੈ ਕਰ ਪਾਪ ਸੰਬੂਹ ਨ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

(ਉਹ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਉਸ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ।

When the Lord protects with his own hands, but none of the sins even comes near thee.

ਔਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਕਹਾ ਕਹ ਤੋ ਸੌਂ ਸੁ ਪੇਟ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਪਟ ਬੀਚ ਬਚਾਵੈ ॥੬॥੨੪੮॥

(ਹੇ ਜਿਗਿਆਸੂ!) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰਾ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਕਹਾ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਤਾ ਦੇ) ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਗਰਭ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵੀ ਬਚਾਉਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥੨੪੮॥

What else should I say unto you, He protects (the infant) even in the membranes of the womb.6.248.

ਪਾਇ ਗਹੇ ਜਬ ਤੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਤਬ ਤੇ ਕੋਊ ਆਂਖ ਤਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਆਨਯੋ ॥

pai gahe jab te tumare tab te kouoo aa(n)kh tare nahee aanayo ||

ਜਦ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਚਰਨ ਫੜੇ ਹਨ ਤਦ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ (ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖਾ ਹੇਠਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਉਾਂਦਾ।

O God! the day when I caught hold of your feet, I do not bring anyone else under my sight

ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਹੈਂ ਮਤ ਏਕ ਨ ਮਾਨਯੋ ॥

raam raheem puraan kuraan anek kahai(n) mat ek na maanayo ||

ਰਾਮ, ਰਹੀਮ, ਪੁਰਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਨੇ ਅਨੇਕਾ ਮੱਤ ਕਹੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। (ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ) ਇਕ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ।

None other is liked by me now the Puranas and the Quran try to know Thee by the names of Ram and Rahim and talk about you through several stories,

ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਸਭੈ ਬਹੁ ਭੇਦ ਕਹੈ ਹਮ ਏਕ ਨ ਜਾਨਯੋ ॥

si(n)mirat saasatr bedh sabhai bahu bhedh kahai ham ek na jaanayo ||

ਸਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੇਦ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ।

The Simritis, Shastras and Vedas describe several mysteries of yours, but I do not agree with any of them.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਸਿਪਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਨ ਕਹਯੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਹਿ ਬਖਾਨਯੋ ॥੮੬੩॥

sree asipaan kirapaa tumaree kar mai na kahayo sabh toh bakhaanayo ||863||

ਹੇ ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਤੇਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ (ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਿਰਜਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਿਆ ਹੈ)। (ਇਹ) ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਹਾ, ਸਾਰਾ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੀ ਕਥਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੮੬੩॥

O sword-wielder God! This all has been described by Thy Grace, what power can I have to write all this?.863.

ਸਗਲ ਦੁਆਰ ਕਉ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਗਹਯੋ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਦੁਆਰ ॥

sagal dhuaar kau chhaadd kai gahayo tuhaaro dhuaar ||

ਸਾਰੇ ਦਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਦਰ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ।

O Lord! I have forsaken all other doors and have caught hold of only Thy door. O Lord! Thou has caught hold of my arm

ਬਾਹਿ ਗਹੇ ਕੀ ਲਾਜ ਅਸਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਹਾਰ ॥੮੬੪॥

baeh gahe kee laaj as gobi(n)dh dhaas tuhaar ||864||

ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬਾਹ ਫੜੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਹੈ, ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾ ॥੮੬੪॥

I, Govind, am Thy serf, kindly take (care of me and) protect my honour.864.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

gagan mai thaal rav cha(n)dh dheepak bane taarikaa ma(n)ddal janak motee ||

ਸਾਰਾ ਆਕਾਸ਼ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਥਾਲ ਹੈ, ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ (ਇਸ ਥਾਲ ਵਿਚ) ਦੀਵੇ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹ, (ਥਾਲ ਵਿਚ) ਮੋਤੀ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।

In the bowl of the sky, the sun and moon are the lamps; the stars in the constellations are the pearls.

ਧੂਪੁ ਮਲਆਨਲੋ ਪਵਣੁ ਚਵਰੋ ਕਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਬਨਰਾਇ ਫੂਲੰਤ ਜੋਤੀ ॥੧॥

dhoop malaanalo pavan chavaro kare sagal banarai foola(n)t jotee ||1||

ਮਲਯ ਪਰਬਤ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹਵਾ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਧੂਪ (ਧੁਖ ਰਿਹਾ) ਹੈ, ਹਵਾ ਚੌਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ-ਰੂਪ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਰਤੀ) ਲਈ ਫੱੁਲ ਦੇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ

The fragrance of sandalwood is the incense, the wind is the fan, and all the vegetation are flowers in offering to You, O Luminous Lord. ||1||

ਕੈਸੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ॥

kaisee aaratee hoi bhav kha(n)ddanaa teree aaratee ||

ਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! (ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਤੇਰੀ ਕੈਸੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ!

What a beautiful lamp-lit worship service this is! O Destroyer of fear, this is Your Aartee, Your worship service.

ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਮਕ ਰਹੀ) ਇੱਕ-ਰਸ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰੌ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

The sound current of the Shabad is the sounding of the temple drums. ||1||Pause||

ਸਹਸ ਤਵ ਨੈਨ ਨਨ ਨੈਨ ਹੈ ਤੋਹਿ ਕਉ ਸਹਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਨਨਾ ਏਕ ਤੋਹੀ ॥

sahas tav nain nan nain hai toh kau sahas moorat nanaa ek tohee ||

(ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਹਨ (ਪਰ, ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ । ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ

Thousands are Your eyes, and yet You have no eyes. Thousands are Your forms, and yet You have not even one form.

ਸਹਸ ਪਦ ਬਿਮਲ ਨਨ ਏਕ ਪਦ ਗੰਧ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਸ ਤਵ ਗੰਧ ਇਵ ਚਲਤ ਮੋਹੀ ॥੨॥

sahas padh bimal nan ek padh ga(n)dh bin sahas tav ga(n)dh iv chalat mohee ||2||

ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪੈਰ ਹਨ, ਪਰ (ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਪੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ । ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੱਕ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਨੱਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ । ਤੇਰੇ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਕੌਤਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।

Thousands are Your lotus feet, and yet You have no feet. Without a nose, thousands are Your noses. I am enchanted with Your play! ||2||

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

sabh meh jot jot hai soi ||

ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ

The Divine Light is within everyone; You are that Light.

ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਚਾਨਣਿ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

tis kai chaanan sabh meh chaanan hoi ||

ਉਸ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੇ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ (ਸੂਝ-ਬੂਝ) ਹੈ

Yours is that Light which shines within everyone.

ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

ਪਰ ਇਸ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ)

By the Guru's Teachings, this Divine Light is revealed.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥

jo tis bhaavai su aaratee hoi ||3||

(ਇਸ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੀ) ਆਰਤੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ) ।੩।

That which pleases the Lord is the true worship service. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਲੋਭਿਤ ਮਨੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਆਹੀ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥

har charan kamal makara(n)dh lobhit mano anadhino moh aahee piaasaa ||

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ-ਰੂਪ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਲਈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਲਲਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸੇ ਰਸ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ

My soul is enticed by the honey-sweet lotus feet of the Lord; night and day, I thirst for them.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਰਿੰਗ ਕਉ ਹੋਇ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੭॥੯॥

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਪੀਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਦੇਹ, ਜਿਸ (ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ) ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ।੪।੧।੭।੯।

Bless Nanak, the thirsty song-bird, with the water of Your Mercy, that he may come to dwell in Your Name. ||4||1||7||9||

ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਆਰਤੀ ਮਜਨੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥

naam tero aaratee majan muraare ||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਅੰਞਾਣ ਲੋਕ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (ਤੇਰੀ) ਆਰਤੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ ।

Your Name, Lord, is my adoration and cleansing bath.

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਝੂਠੇ ਸਗਲ ਪਾਸਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਕੂੜੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

Without the Name of the Lord, all ostentatious displays are useless. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਆਸਨੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਉਰਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਸਰੋ ਲੇ ਛਿਟਕਾਰੇ ॥

naam tero aasano naam tero urasaa naam teraa kesaro le chhiTakaare ||

ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਵਾਲਾ) ਆਸਨ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਚੰਦਨ ਘਸਾਉਣ ਲਈ) ਸਿਲ ਹੈ, (ਮੂਰਤੀ ਪੂਜਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੇਸਰ ਘੋਲ ਕੇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ) ਕੇਸਰ ਛਿੜਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਕੇਸਰ ਹੈ ।

Your Name is my prayer mat, and Your Name is the stone to grind the sandalwood. Your Name is the saffron which I take and sprinkle in offering to You.

ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਭੁਲਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਚੰਦਨੋ ਘਸਿ ਜਪੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਕਉ ਚਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

naam teraa a(n)bhulaa naam tero cha(n)dhano ghas jape naam le tujheh kau chaare ||1||

ਹੇ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਚੰਦਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ) ਘਸਾ ਕੇ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਰੂਪ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।

Your Name is the water, and Your Name is the sandalwood. The chanting of Your Name is the grinding of the sandalwood. I take it and offer all this to You. ||1||

ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਬਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਤੇਲੁ ਲੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਸਾਰੇ ॥

naam teraa dheevaa naam tero baatee naam tero tel le maeh pasaare ||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੀਵਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਦੀਵੇ ਦੀ) ਵੱਟੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਤੇਲ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਨਾਮ-ਦੀਵੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ

Your Name is the lamp, and Your Name is the wick. Your Name is the oil I pour into it.

ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਭਇਓ ਉਜਿਆਰੋ ਭਵਨ ਸਗਲਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

naam tere kee jot lagaiee bhio ujiaaro bhavan sagalaare ||2||

ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਾਈ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੇ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।

Your Name is the light applied to this lamp, which enlightens and illuminates the entire world. ||2||

ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਤਾਗਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਫੂਲ ਮਾਲਾ ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਸਗਲ ਜੂਠਾਰੇ ॥

naam tero taagaa naam fool maalaa bhaar aThaareh sagal jooThaare ||

ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਂ ਧਾਗਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਫੁੱਲ ਤੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ (ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਲੋਕ ਫੁੱਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਜੂਠੀ ਹੈ ।

Your Name is the thread, and Your Name is the garland of flowers. The eighteen loads of vegetation are all too impure to offer to You.

ਤੇਰੋ ਕੀਆ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਅਰਪਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੁਹੀ ਚਵਰ ਢੋਲਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

tero keeaa tujheh kiaa arapau naam teraa tuhee chavar ddolaare ||3||

(ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ) ਤੇਰੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੀਹ ਰੱਖਾਂ? (ਸੋ,) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਚੌਰ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਝਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੩।

Why should I offer to You, that which You Yourself created? Your Name is the fan, which I wave over You. ||3||

ਦਸ ਅਠਾ ਅਠਸਠੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਖਾਣੀ ਇਹੈ ਵਰਤਣਿ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥

dhas aThaa aThasaThe chaare khaanee ihai varatan hai sagal sa(n)saare ||

ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਨਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪੁੰਨ-ਕਰਮ ਸਮਝ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।

The whole world is engrossed in the eighteen Puraanas, the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and the four sources of creation.

ਕਹੈ ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਆਰਤੀ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਭੋਗ ਤੁਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੩॥

ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਭੋਗ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੪।੩।

Says Ravi Daas, Your Name is my Aartee, my lamp-lit worship-service. The True Name, Sat Naam, is the food which I offer to You. ||4||3||

ਧੂਪ ਦੀਵੇ ਤੇ ਘਿਉ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਸਮੱਗ੍ਰੀ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ

With incense, lamps and ghee, I offer this lamp-lit worship service.

ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਉ ਕਮਲਾ ਪਤੀ ॥੧॥

vaarane jaau kamalaa patee ||1||

ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ

I am a sacrifice to the Lord of Lakshmi. ||1||

ਮੰਗਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗਲਾ ॥ ਨਿਤ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਦਾ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ) ਅਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

Hail to You, Lord, hail to You! Again and again, hail to You, Lord King, Ruler of all! ||1||Pause||

ਊਤਮੁ ਦੀਅਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਤੀ ॥

uootam dheearaa niramal baatee ||

ਸੋਹਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਸੁਥਰੀ ਵੱਟੀ ਹੈਂ

Sublime is the lamp, and pure is the wick.

ਤੁਹਂੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਕਮਲਾ ਪਾਤੀ ॥੨॥

tuha(n)ee nira(n)jan kamalaa paatee ||2||

ਹੇ ਕਮਲਾਪਤੀ! ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ

You are immaculate and pure, O Brilliant Lord of Wealth! ||2||

ਰਾਮਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਾਮਾਨੰਦੁ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

raamaa bhagat raamaana(n)dh jaanai ||

ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮ ਆਨੰਦ-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ

Raamaanand knows the devotional worship of the Lord.

ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥੩॥

pooran paramaana(n)dh bakhaanai ||3||

ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।

He says that the Lord is all-pervading, the embodiment of supreme joy. ||3||

ਮਦਨ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਭੈ ਤਾਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੇ ॥

madhan moorat bhai taar gobi(n)dhe ||

ਜੋ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ) ਡਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ

The Lord of the world, of wondrous form, has carried me across the terrifying world-ocean.

ਸੈਨੁ ਭਣੈ ਭਜੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੇ ॥੪॥੨॥

sain bhanai bhaj paramaana(n)dhe ||4||2||

ਸੈਣ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ!) ਉਸ ਪਰਮ-ਆਨੰਦ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ

Says Sain, remember the Lord, the embodiment of supreme joy! ||4||2||

ਹੇ ਦੇਵ! ਹੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੀ ਖਾਣ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋਗ-ਅੱਭਿਆਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਪੁੰਨ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ ਉਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।

Hear my prayer, Lord; You are the Divine Light of the Divine, the Primal, All-pervading Master.

ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੧॥

sidh samaadh a(n)t nahee paiaa laag rahe saranaiee ||1||

(ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈਂ, ਸੋ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਰੱਖਣਾ (ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ) ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ ।੧।

The Siddhas in Samaadhi have not found Your limits. They hold tight to the Protection of Your Sanctuary. ||1||

ਲੇਹੁ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰੋ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਉਤਾਰੋ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,

Worship and adoration of the Pure, Primal Lord comes by worshipping the True Guru, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਠਾਢਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨਿਗਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Thaaddaa brahamaa nigam beechaarai alakh na lakhiaa jaiee ||1|| rahaau ||

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਚਿਹਨ-ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵੇਦ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

Standing at His Door, Brahma studies the Vedas, but he cannot see the Unseen Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਤਤੁ ਤੇਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤੀ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਦੇਹ ਉਜੵਾਰਾ ॥

tat tel naam keeaa baatee dheepak dheh ujayeaaraa ||

ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਲ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਟੀ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਨਾਮ ਦੇ) ਚਾਨਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।

With the oil of knowledge about the essence of reality, and the wick of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, this lamp illluminates my body.

ਜੋਤਿ ਲਾਇ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਜਗਾਇਆ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੂਝਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

jot lai jagadhees jagaiaa boojhai boojhanahaaraa ||2||

ਇਹ ਦੀਵਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ (ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਜਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।੨।

I have applied the Light of the Lord of the Universe, and lit this lamp. God the Knower knows. ||2||

ਪੰਚੇ ਸਬਦ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਬਾਜੇ ਸੰਗੇ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਨੀ ॥

ਹੇ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਬੀਰ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ) ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ

The Unstruck Melody of the Panch Shabad, the Five Primal Sounds, vibrates and resounds. I dwell with the Lord of the World.

ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥੩॥੫॥

O Lord of the world, this is Your lamp-lit worship service.

ਜੋ ਜਨ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jo jan tumaree bhagat kara(n)te tin ke kaaj savaarataa ||1|| rahaau ||

You are the Arranger of the affairs of those humble beings who perform Your devotional worship service. ||1||Pause||

ਦਾਲਿ ਸੀਧਾ ਮਾਗਉ ਘੀਉ ॥

ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਦਾਲ, ਆਟਾ ਤੇ ਘਿਉ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ,

Lentils, flour and ghee - these things, I beg of You.

ਹਮਰਾ ਖੁਸੀ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਜੀਉ ॥

hamaraa khusee karai nit jeeau ||

ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਤ ਸੁਖੀ ਰੱਖੇ,

My mind shall ever be pleased.

ਪਨੑੀਆ ਛਾਦਨੁ ਨੀਕਾ ॥ ਅਨਾਜੁ ਮਗਉ ਸਤ ਸੀ ਕਾ ॥੧॥

ਜੁੱਤੀ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਭੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਸੱਤਾਂ ਸੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਨ ਭੀ (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।

Shoes, fine clothes, and grain of seven kinds - I beg of You. ||1||

ਗਊ ਭੈਸ ਮਗਉ ਲਾਵੇਰੀ ॥

ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਮੈਂ ਗਾਂ ਮਹਿੰ ਲਵੇਰੀ (ਭੀ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ,

A milk cow, and a water buffalo, I beg of You,

ਇਕ ਤਾਜਨਿ ਤੁਰੀ ਚੰਗੇਰੀ ॥

eik taajan turee cha(n)geree ||

ਤੇ ਇਕ ਚੰਗੀ ਅਰਬੀ ਘੋੜੀ ਭੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ

and a fine Turkestani horse.

ਘਰ ਕੀ ਗੀਹਨਿ ਚੰਗੀ ॥

ghar kee geehan cha(n)gee ||

ਘਰ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੀ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।੧।

A good wife to care for my home

ਜਨੁ ਧੰਨਾ ਲੇਵੈ ਮੰਗੀ ॥੨॥੪॥

ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਧੰਨਾ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਮੰਗ

ਯਾ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਹਾ ਮੁਨ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੇ ਤਪ ਮੈ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

yaa te prasa(n)n bhe hai mahaa mun dhevan ke tap mai sukh paavai ||

(ਦੈਂਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ) ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਤੇਜ-ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ ਹਨ।

The great sages became pleased and received comfort in meditating on the gods.,

ਜਗ੍ਯ ਕਰੈ ਇਕ ਬੇਦ ਰਰੈ ਭਵ ਤਾਪ ਹਰੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਧਿਆਨਹਿ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

jagay karai ik bedh rarai bhav taap harai mil dhiaaneh laavai ||

(ਕਈ) ਯੱਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਈ ਵੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਈ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹਰਿ ਵਿਚ) ਧਿਆਨ ਲਗਾਉਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

The sacrifices are being performed, the Vedas are being recited and for the removal of suffering, contemplation is being done together.,

ਝਾਲਰ ਤਾਲ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਉਪੰਗ ਰਬਾਬ ਲੀਏ ਸੁਰ ਸਾਜ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥

jhaalar taal miradha(n)g upa(n)g rabaab le'ee sur saaj milaavai ||

(ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਘੰਟੇ, ਛੈਣੇ, ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ, ਉਪੰਗ (ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਵਾਜਾ) ਰਬਾਬ ਆਦਿ ਜਿਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇਕ-ਸੁਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The tunes of various musical instruments like cymbals big and small, trumpet, kettledrum and Rabab are being made harmonies.,

ਕਿੰਨਰ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਗਾਨ ਕਰੈ ਗਨਿ ਜਛ ਅਪਛਰ ਨਿਰਤ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥੫੪॥

ki(n)nar ga(n)dhrab gaan karai gan jachh apachhar nirat dhikhaavai ||54||

(ਕਿਤੇ) ਕਿੰਨਰ ਅਤੇ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ (ਕਿਤੇ) ਯਕਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਅਪੱਛਰਾਵਾ ਨਾਚ ਕਰਕੇ ਵਿਖਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੫੪॥

Somewhere the Kinnars and Gandharvas are singing and somewhere the Ganas, Yakshas and Apsaras are dancing.54.,

ਸੰਖਨ ਕੀ ਧੁਨ ਘੰਟਨਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਫੂਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਬਰਖਾਵੈ ॥

sa(n)khan kee dhun gha(n)Tan kee kar foolan kee barakhaa barakhaavai ||

ਸੰਖਾ ਅਤੇ ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗੁੰਜਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਫੁਲਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

With the sound of conches and gongs, they are causing the rain of flowers.,

ਆਰਤੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰੈ ਸੁਰ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਪੇਖ ਪੁਰੰਦਰ ਕੇ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

aaratee koT karai sur su(n)dhar pekh pura(n)dhar ke bal jaavai ||

(ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ) ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ।

Millions of gods fully decorated, are performing aarti (circumambulation) and seeing Indra, they show intense devotion.,

ਦਾਨਤ ਦਛਨ ਦੈ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਦਛਨ ਭਾਲ ਮੈ ਕੁੰਕਮ ਅਛਤ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

dhaanat dhachhan dhai kai pradhachhan bhaal mai ku(n)kam achhat laavai ||

(ਉਦੋਂ) ਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੱਛਣਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਖਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਇੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਕੇਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਵਲਾ (ਦਾ ਤਿਲਕ) ਲਗਾਉਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Giving gifts and performing circumambulation around Indra, they are applying the frontal –mark of saffron and rice on their foreheads.,

ਹੋਤ ਕੁਲਾਹਲ ਦੇਵਪੁਰੀ ਮਿਲ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੇ ਕੁਲਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੫੫॥

hot kulaahal dhevapuree mil dhevan ke kul ma(n)gal gaavai ||55||

(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ) ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਧੁੰਮ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੰਗਲਮਈ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੫੫॥

In all the city of gods, there is much excitement and the families of gods are singing songs of feliciations.55.,

ਹੇ ਰਵਿ ਹੇ ਸਸਿ ਹੇ ਕਰੁਨਾਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਬੈ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥

he rav he sas he karunaanidh meree abai binatee sun leejai ||

ਹੇ ਸੂਰਜ! ਹੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ! ਹੇ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਗਰ! ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ ਲਵੋ।

O Surya! O Chandra! O merciful Lord! listen to a request of mine, I am not asking for anything else from you

ਅਉਰ ਨ ਮਾਗਤ ਹਉ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਹਉ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸੋਈ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

aaur na maagat hau tum te kachh chaahat hau chit mai soiee keejai ||

ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ, ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾ ਉਹੀ (ਪੂਰੀ) ਕਰ ਦਿਓ।

Whatever I wish in my mind, by that with Thy Grace

ਸਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੋ ਕਹਿ ਸਾਚ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥

sasatran so at hee ran bheetar joojh maro keh saach pateejai ||

ਬਹੁਤ ਵਡੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਲੜ ਮਰਾ', ਸਚ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾ, ਨਿਸਚਾ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ।

If I fall a martyr while fighting with my enemies then I shall think that I have realised Truth

ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਗ ਮਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਇਹੈ ਵਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੧੯੦੦॥

sa(n)t sahai sadhaa jag mai kirapaa kar sayaam ihai var dheejai ||1900||

ਹੇ ਸੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਤਾ! ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਕਵੀ) ਸ਼ਿਆਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੋ ਵਰ ਦਿਓ ॥੧੯੦੦॥

O Sustainer of the Universe! I may always help the saints in this world and destroy the tyrants, bestow this boon on me.1900.

ਪਾਇ ਗਹੇ ਜਬ ਤੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਤਬ ਤੇ ਕੋਊ ਆਂਖ ਤਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਆਨਯੋ ॥

pai gahe jab te tumare tab te kouoo aa(n)kh tare nahee aanayo ||

ਜਦ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਚਰਨ ਫੜੇ ਹਨ ਤਦ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ (ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖਾ ਹੇਠਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਉਾਂਦਾ।

O God! the day when I caught hold of your feet, I do not bring anyone else under my sight

ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਹੈਂ ਮਤ ਏਕ ਨ ਮਾਨਯੋ ॥

raam raheem puraan kuraan anek kahai(n) mat ek na maanayo ||

ਰਾਮ, ਰਹੀਮ, ਪੁਰਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਨੇ ਅਨੇਕਾ ਮੱਤ ਕਹੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। (ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ) ਇਕ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ।

None other is liked by me now the Puranas and the Quran try to know Thee by the names of Ram and Rahim and talk about you through several stories,

ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਸਭੈ ਬਹੁ ਭੇਦ ਕਹੈ ਹਮ ਏਕ ਨ ਜਾਨਯੋ ॥

si(n)mirat saasatr bedh sabhai bahu bhedh kahai ham ek na jaanayo ||

ਸਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੇਦ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ।

The Simritis, Shastras and Vedas describe several mysteries of yours, but I do not agree with any of them.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਸਿਪਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਨ ਕਹਯੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਹਿ ਬਖਾਨਯੋ ॥੮੬੩॥

sree asipaan kirapaa tumaree kar mai na kahayo sabh toh bakhaanayo ||863||

ਹੇ ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਤੇਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ (ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਿਰਜਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਿਆ ਹੈ)। (ਇਹ) ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਹਾ, ਸਾਰਾ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੀ ਕਥਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੮੬੩॥

O sword-wielder God! This all has been described by Thy Grace, what power can I have to write all this?.863.

ਸਾਰੇ ਦਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਦਰ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ।

O Lord! I have forsaken all other doors and have caught hold of only Thy door. O Lord! Thou has caught hold of my arm

ਬਾਹਿ ਗਹੇ ਕੀ ਲਾਜ ਅਸਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਹਾਰ ॥੮੬੪॥

baeh gahe kee laaj as gobi(n)dh dhaas tuhaar ||864||

ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬਾਹ ਫੜੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਹੈ, ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾ ॥੮੬੪॥

I, Govind, am Thy serf, kindly take (care of me and) protect my honour.864.

ਐਸੇ ਚੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਨ ਬਢਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ॥

ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਚੰਡੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵੱਧ ਗਿਆ

In this way, through the Glory of Chandi, the splendour of gods increased.,

ਤੀਨ ਲੋਕ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਰੈ ਰਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿ ਜਾਪ ॥੫੬॥

teen lok jai jai karai rarai naam sat jaap ||56||

ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਲੋਕ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੀ ਜੈ-ਜੈ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ('ਮਾਰਕੰਡੇਯ ਪੁਰਾਣ' ਦੀ) ਸੱਤਸਈ (ਵਿਚਲੇ) ਨਾਵਾ (ਦੇ ਸਤੋਤ੍ਰ ਦਾ) ਜਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ ॥੫੬॥

All the there worlds are rejoicing and the sound of the recitation of True Name is being heard.56.,

ਭੂਖੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕੀ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ

I am so hungry, I cannot perform devotional worship service.

ਯਹ ਮਾਲਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਲੀਜੈ ॥

yeh maalaa apanee leejai ||

ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।

Here, Lord, take back Your mala.

ਹਉ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਰੇਨਾ ॥

hau maa(n)gau sa(n)tan renaa ||

(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇੱਕ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੋਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰ, ਦੂਜੇ) ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ,

I beg for the dust of the feet of the Saints.

ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਦੇਨਾ ॥੧॥

mai naahee kisee kaa dhenaa ||1||

ਤਾਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਮੁਥਾਜ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵਾਂ ।੧

I do not owe anyone anything. ||1||

ਮਾਧੋ ਕੈਸੀ ਬਨੈ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗੇ ॥

maadho kaisee banai tum sa(n)ge ||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਭ ਸਕਣੀ

O Lord, how can I be with You?

ਆਪਿ ਨ ਦੇਹੁ ਤ ਲੇਵਉ ਮੰਗੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

aap na dheh ta levau ma(n)ge || rahaau ||

ਸੋ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਨਾਹ ਦੇਵੇਂਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ ।ਰਹਾਉ

If You do not give me Yourself, then I shall beg until I get You. ||Pause||

ਦੁਇ ਸੇਰ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਚੂਨਾ ॥

dhui ser maa(n)gau choonaa ||

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੋ ਸੇਰ ਆਟੇ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ,

I ask for two kilos of flour,

ਪਾਉ ਘੀਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੂਨਾ ॥

paau gheeau sa(n)g loonaa ||

ਇਕ ਪਾਉ ਘਿਉ ਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਲੂਣ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,

and half a pound of ghee, and salt.

ਅਧ ਸੇਰੁ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਦਾਲੇ ॥

adh ser maa(n)gau dhaale ||

ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਅੱਧ ਸੇਰ ਦਾਲ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ

I ask for a pound of beans,

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੋਨਉ ਵਖਤ ਜਿਵਾਲੇ ॥੨॥

mo kau dhonau vakhat jivaale ||2||

ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਵੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਾਨ ਲਈ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਹਨ ।੨।

which I shall eat twice a day. ||2||

ਖਾਟ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਚਉਪਾਈ ॥

khaaT maa(n)gau chaupaiee ||

ਸਾਬਤ ਮੰਜੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ

I ask for a cot, with four legs,

ਸਿਰਹਾਨਾ ਅਵਰ ਤੁਲਾਈ ॥

sirahaanaa avar tulaiee ||

ਸਿਰਾਣਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਲਾਈ ਭੀ

and a pillow and mattress.

ਊਪਰ ਕਉ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਖੀਂਧਾ ॥

uoopar kau maa(n)gau khee(n)dhaa ||

ਉਪਰ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਰਜ਼ਾਈ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ—ਬੱਸ!

I ask for a quilt to cover myself.

ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਜਨੁ ਥਂੀਧਾ ॥੩॥

teree bhagat karai jan tha(n)eedhaa ||3||

ਫਿਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ (ਸਰੀਰਕ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੇਗਾ ।੩।

Your humble servant shall perform Your devotional worship service with love. ||3||

ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਲਬੋ ॥

mai naahee keetaa labo ||

ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ (ਮੰਗਣ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ,

I have no greed;

ਇਕੁ ਨਾਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੈ ਫਬੋ ॥

eik naau teraa mai fabo ||

ਕਉਂਕਿ (ਉਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹਨ) ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ

Your Name is the only ornament I wish for.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

keh kabeer man maaniaa ||

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ

Says Kabeer, my mind is pleased and appeased;

ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

man maaniaa tau har jaaniaa ||4||11||

ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ (ਡੂੰਘੀ) ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।੪।੧੧।

now that my mind is pleased and appeased, I have come to know the Lord. ||4||11||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

ਸਲੋਕ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Shalok, First Mehla:

ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਿਵੈ ਘਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਤਿਹ ਲੋਇ ॥

gur dhaataa gur hivai ghar gur dheepak teh loi ||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਠੰਡ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਹੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਕੀ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।

The Guru is the Giver; the Guru is the House of ice. The Guru is the Light of the three worlds.

ਅਮਰ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

amar padhaarath naanakaa man maaniaai sukh hoi ||1||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ) ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ) । ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਏ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।

O Nanak, He is everlasting wealth. Place your mind's faith in Him, and you shall find peace. ||1||

ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਜੋ ਅਨਹੋਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

chi(n)taa taa kee keejeeaai jo anahonee hoi ||

(ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੌਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਤਾਂ) ਉਸ (ਘਟਨਾ) ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਕਦੇੇ ਵਾਪਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ ।

People become anxious, when something unexpected happens.

ਇਹੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੫੧॥

eih maarag sa(n)saar ko naanak thir nahee koi ||51||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਚਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਇਥੇ) ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ (ਭੀ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।੫੧।

This is the way of the world, O Nanak; nothing is stable or permanent. ||51||

ਜੋ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਸੋ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਹੈ ਪਰੋ ਆਜੁ ਕੈ ਕਾਲਿ ॥

jo upajio so binas hai paro aaj kai kaal ||

(ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ (ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਇਥੋਂ) ਅੱਜ ਜਾਂ ਭਲਕੇ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।

Whatever has been created shall be destroyed; everyone shall perish, today or tomorrow.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਲੇ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਗਲ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੫੨॥

naanak har gun gai le chhaadd sagal ja(n)jaal ||52||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ।੫੨।

O Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and give up all other entanglements. ||52||

ਨਾਮੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਹਿਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥

naam rahio saadhoo rahio rahio gur gobi(n)dh ||

ਨਾਮ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ ।

The Naam remains; the Holy Saints remain; the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, remains.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਕਿਨ ਜਪਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤੁ ॥੫੬॥

kahu naanak ieh jagat mai kin japio gur ma(n)t ||56||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੇ (ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।੫੬।

Says Nanak, how rare are those who chant the Guru's Mantra in this world. ||56||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਮੈ ਗਹਿਓ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਮ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

raam naam ur mai gahio jaa kai sam nahee koi ||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ,

I have enshrined the Lord's Name within my heart; there is nothing equal to it.

ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਿਟੈ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੫੭॥੧॥

jeh simarat sa(n)kaT miTai dharas tuhaaro hoi ||57||1||

ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਭੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫੭।੧।

Meditating in remembrance on it, my troubles are taken away; I have received the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||57||1||

ਤਲਵਾਰ, ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ, ਖੰਡਾ, ਖੜਗ, ਬੰਦੂਕ, ਤਬਰ (ਛਵੀ) ਤੀਰ,

As, Kripan (sword), Khanda, Khadag (sword), Tupak (gun), Tabar (hatched),

ਸੈਫ ਸਰੋਹੀ ਸੈਹਥੀ ਯਹੈ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਪੀਰ ॥੩॥

saif sarohee saihathee yahai hamaarai peer ||3||

ਸੈਫ, ਸਰੋਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਹਥੀ (ਬਰਛੀ) (ਆਦਿਕ) ਇਹ (ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ) ਮੇਰੇ ਪੀਰ (ਅਥਵਾ ਗੁਰੂ) ਹਨ ॥੩॥

Teer (arrow), Saif (sword), Sarohi and Saihathi, all these are our adorable seniors.3.

ਤੀਰ ਤੁਹੀ ਸੈਥੀ ਤੁਹੀ ਤੁਹੀ ਤਬਰ ਤਰਵਾਰਿ ॥

teer tuhee saithee tuhee tuhee tabar taravaar ||

(ਹੇ ਪਰਮ ਸੱਤਾ!) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੀਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬਰਛੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਛਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਹੈਂ।

Thou are the Teer (arrow), Thou are Saihathi, Thou art Tabar (hatchet), and Talwaar (sword)

ਨਾਮ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਭਏ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਭਵ ਪਾਰ ॥੪॥

naam tihaaro jo japai bhe si(n)dh bhav paar ||4||

ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ) ਭਵਸਾਗਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥

He, who remembers Thy Name crosses the dreadful ocean of existence.4.

ਕਾਲ ਤੁਹੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਤੁਹੀ ਤੁਹੀ ਤੇਗ ਅਰੁ ਤੀਰ ॥

kaal tuhee kaalee tuhee tuhee teg ar teer ||

ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਾਲ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੇਗ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਰ ਹੈਂ।

Thou art the KAL (death), thou art the goddess Kali, Thou art the saber and arrow,

ਤੁਹੀ ਨਿਸਾਨੀ ਜੀਤ ਕੀ ਆਜੁ ਤੁਹੀ ਜਗਬੀਰ ॥੫॥

tuhee nisaanee jeet kee aaj tuhee jagabeer ||5||

Thou art the sign of victory today and Thou art the Hero of the world.5.

ਤੀਰੋ ਤੁਫੰਗੋ ਬਡੋ ਰਾਮ ਜੰਗੋ ਧਮਕ ਧਾਰ ਅਣੀਆਰ ਕਮੰਦ ਕੋਰੜਾ॥ ਪੰਜ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਪਰਵਾਣ॥

teero tufa(n)go baddo raam ja(n)go dhamak dhaar aneeaar kama(n)dh koraRaa|| pa(n)j shasatar paravaan||

Arrow, Pistols, Large Rifles, those that fire (1), edged (2), pointed (3), nooseb (4) , staff (5). These are the 5 accepted types of weapons.

ਸੁਣੋ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ ਏਹੌ ਸਾਚ

suno na(n)dh laal ehau saach

Listen, Nand Lal, this is the veracity,

ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰਾਊਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜ (੫੬)

paragaT karaauoo(n) aapane raaj (56)

Through which (I) reveal my sovereignty.(56)

ਚਾਰ ਬਰਨ ਇਕ ਬਰਨ ਕਰਾਊਂ

chaar baran ik baran karaauoo(n)

All the four castes, (I) blend into one caste,

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਾਉੂ। (੫੭)

vaahiguroo kaa jaap japaauoo| (57)

And popularise the worship of Waheguru.(57)

ਚੜੈ੍ਹਂ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਉੜਾਵੈਂ ਬਾਜ

chaRaiha(n) tura(n)g uRaavai(n) baaj

They will mount the horse and fly the falcon,

ਤੁਰਕ ਦੇਖ ਕਰ ਜਾਵੈਂ ਭਾਜ਼(੫੮)

turak dhekh kar jaavai(n) bhaaz(58)

Seeing them as such, Turks (enemies) will flee.(58)

ਸਵਾ ਲਾਖ ਸੇ ਏਕ ਲੜਾਊਂ

savaa laakh se ek laRaauoo(n)

(I will) make the one combat a hundred and twenty-five thousand.

ਚੜੈ੍ਹ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਿਸ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰਾਊਂ। (੫੯)

chaRaih si(n)gh tis mukat karaauoo(n)| (59)

The Sikh proceeding thus, (I will) get emancipated.(59)

ਝੂਲਣ ਨੇਜੇ ਹਸਤੀ ਸਾਜੇ

jhoolan neje hasatee saaje

The spears wave and the elephants are decorated,

ਦੁਆਰ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਰ ਨੌਬਤ ਬਾਜੇ। (੬੦)

At every door the victory drums beat.(60)

ਸਵਾ ਲਾਖ ਜਬ ਧੁਖੈ ਪਲੀਤਾ

savaa laakh jab dhukhai paleetaa

When a hundred and twenty-five thousands fire-works sparkle,

ਤਬੈ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਉਦੈ ਅਸਤ ਲੌ ਜੀਤਾ। (੬੧)

tabai khaalasaa udhai asat lau jeetaa| (61)

Then assume that, Khalsa has attained victory.(61)

ਰਾਜ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਆਕੀ ਰਹੇ ਨ ਕੋਇ

raaj karegaa khaalasaa aakee rahe na koi

The Khalsa will rule and the rebels will be eliminated,

ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋਏ ਸਭ ਮਿਲਹਿੰ ਗੇ ਬਚੇ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਜੋ ਹੋਇ। (੬੨)

khhuaar hoe sabh milahi(n) ge bache sharan jo hoi| (62)

All will be obliged to join and only those who surrender will survive.(62)

ਉਠ ਗਈ ਸਫਾ ਮਲੇਛ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਕੂੜਾ ਪਾਸਾਰ॥

auTh giee safaa malechh kee kar kooRaa paasaar||

Cleared and up went the impure filth that was spread.

ਡੰਕਾ ਬਾਜੇ ਫਤਿਹ ਕਾ ਨਿਹਕਲੰਕ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥

dda(n)kaa baaje fateh kaa nihakala(n)k avataar ||

ਲੰਕ ਲੂਟ ਲਿਆਊਂ ਪਲਕ ਪੇਸ਼ ਖਾਨਾ ਚਲਾਊਂ ਨਰਦ ਗਰਦ ਮਿਲਾੳੋੂ ਮੈਂ ਜੋ ਮਾਤੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਕੇ॥

la(n)k looT liaauoo(n) palak pesh khaanaa chalaauoo(n) naradh garadh milaauooo mai(n) jo maate abhimaan ke||

Sri Lanka will be plundered, from Palak to Peshawar tresuries will run, we will meet them with a roar and surprise attack like lightening, the drunken ones with pride.

ਰੂਮ ਨੌਬਤ ਬਜਾਊਂ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਚਲਾਊਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਲੈ ਕਰਾਊਂ ਤਖਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਕੇ॥

I will not fight, nor will my army. The brave warriors, will quickly secure my order.

ਨਾ ਛਾਡੂੰ ਖਲਕ ਨਾ ਛਾਡੂੰ ਬਲਖ ਪਰਬਤ ਕਾਟੰੂ ਇਰਾਨ ਖੁਰਾਸਾਨ ਕੇ॥

naa chhaaddoo(n) khalak naa chhaaddoo(n) balakh parabat kaaTa(n)oo iraan khuraasaan ke||

I will not leave the world, I will not leave Afghanistan, I will pass the mountains to Iran and Khorasan (North-West Iran).

Coin struck in the two worlds by the grace of the true Master.

Lakhshami is stood in your Court, and all the Angels bow to You.

Whose Sovereign light shines in the whole universe and in heaven (Sri Abhachal Nagar).
