ਸੋਰਠਿ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla:

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ॥

gur kaa sabadh rakhavaare ||

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ

The Word of the Guru's Shabad is my Saving Grace.

ਚਉਕੀ ਚਉਗਿਰਦ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥

chaukee chaugiradh hamaare ||

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਲਈ) ਸਾਡੇ ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਪਹਿਰਾ ਹੈ

It is a guardian posted on all four sides around me.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

raam naam man laagaa ||

ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ,

My mind is attached to the Lord's Name.

ਜਮੁ ਲਜਾਇ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥

jam lajai kar bhaagaa ||1||

ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਰਹੇ) ਜਮ (ਭੀ) ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਭੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।

The Messenger of Death has run away in shame. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੋ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥

prabh jee too mero sukhadhaataa ||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈਂ

O Dear Lord, You are my Giver of peace.

ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਰੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ba(n)dhan kaaT kare man niramal pooran purakh bidhaataa || rahaau ||

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ) ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ

The Perfect Lord, the Architect of Destiny, has shattered my bonds, and made my mind immaculately pure. ||Pause||

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥

naanak prabh abinaasee ||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਅਬਿਨਾਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ

O Nanak, God is eternal and imperishable.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਸੀ ॥

taa kee sev na birathee jaasee ||

(ਐਸਾ ਉਦਾਰ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ

Service to Him shall never go unrewarded.

ਅਨਦ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥

anadh kareh tere dhaasaa ||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ (ਸਦਾ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ,

Your slaves are in bliss;

ਜਪਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸਾ ॥੨॥੪॥੬੮॥

jap pooran hoiee aasaa ||2||4||68||

ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੋ-ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।

chanting and meditating, their desires are fulfilled. ||2||4||68||

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

bilaaval mahalaa panjavaa ||

ਬਿਲਾਵਲ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehla:

ਤਾਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

taatee vaau na lagiee paarabraham saranaiee ||

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਵਿਆਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ) ਸੇਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ।

The hot wind does not even touch one who is under the Protection of the Supreme Lord God.

ਚਉਗਿਰਦ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਰਾਮ ਕਾਰ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥

chaugiradh hamaarai raam kaar dhukh lagai na bhaiee ||1||

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ ਲਕੀਰ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।

On all four sides I am surrounded by the Lord's Circle of Protection; pain does not afflict me, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥

satigur pooraa bheTiaa jin banat banaiee ||

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਵਿਓਂਤ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ

I have met the Perfect True Guru, who has done this deed.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਦੀਆ ਏਕਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

He has given me the medicine of the Lord's Name, and I enshrine love for the One Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਖਨਹਾਰਿ ਸਭ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥

raakh le'ee tin rakhanahaar sabh biaadh miTaiee ||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਉਸ ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,

The Savior Lord has saved me, and eradicated all my sickness.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੭੯॥

kahu naanak kirapaa bhiee prabh bhe sahaiee ||2||15||79||

ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ।੨।੧੫।੭੯।

Says Nanak, God has showered me with His Mercy; He has become my help and support. ||2||15||79||

Shalok:

ਜਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੀਤ ॥

jeh saadhoo gobidh bhajan keeratan naanak neet ||

(ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੂਤੋ! ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ, ਜਿਥੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੁਸਾਂ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ।

Where the Holy people constantly vibrate the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O Nanak

ਣਾ ਹਉ ਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਣਹ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਅਹੁ ਦੂਤ ॥੧॥

naa hau naa too(n) neh chhuTeh nikaT na jaieeahu dhoot ||1||

(ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀ ਉਥੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਖ਼ੁਨਾਮੀ ਤੋਂ) ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ ਬਚਾਂਗਾ, ਨਾਹ ਤੁਸੀ ਬਚੋਗੇ ।੧।

- the Righteous Judge says, ""Do not approach that place, O Messenger of Death, or else neither you nor I shall escape!""||1||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

ਸਲੋਕ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਚਿਤਵਨੀ ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਉ ਉਠਿ ਨੀਤ ॥

man meh chitavau chitavanee udham karau uTh neet ||

ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ) ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਨਿੱਤ (ਸਵੇਰੇ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਾਂ ।

Within my mind, I think thoughts of always rising early, and making the effort.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਾ ਆਹਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥

har keeratan kaa aaharo har dheh naanak ke meet ||1||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਹਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ।੧।

O Lord, my Friend, please bless Nanak with the habit of singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||1||

Pauree:

ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਪਰਭਾਤਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਹੀ ਗਾਵਣਾ ॥

rain dhinas parabhaat toohai hee gaavanaa ||

ਹਰੀ! ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਗਾਵਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈਂ

Night and day, morning and night, I sing to You, Lord.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਰਬਤ ਨਾਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਵਣਾ ॥

jeea ja(n)t sarabat naau teraa dhiaavanaa ||

ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ

All beings and creatures meditate on Your Name.

ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਖਾਵਣਾ ॥

too dhaataa dhaataar teraa dhitaa khaavanaa ||

ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ

You are the Giver, the Great Giver; we eat whatever You give us.

ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਪ ਗਵਾਵਣਾ ॥

bhagat janaa kai sa(n)g paap gavaavanaa ||

, ਤੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ

In the congregation of the devotees, sins are eradicated.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵਣਾ ॥੨੫॥

jan naanak sadh balihaarai bal bal jaavanaa ||25||

। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋ, ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋ ।੨੫।

Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, O Lord. ||25||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਕੇ ਜਸ ਕਾ ਹੈ। ਜੈਸੇ ਤੀਨ ਕਾਲ ਕੀ ਤੀਨ ਸੰਧ੍ਯਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਔਰੁ ਮਧ੍ਯਾਂਨ ਔਰੁ ਸਾਯੰਕਾਲ, ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੇ ਮਤ ਮੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਤਹਕਾਲ 'ਜਪੁ' ਜੀ ਕਾ ਪਾਠੁ, ਔਰ ਸਾਯੰਕਾਲ ਮੇਂ 'ਰਹਿਰਾਸ' ਕਾ ਪਾਠ, ਔਰ ਸੈਂਨ ਸਮੇਂ 'ਸੋਹਿਲੇ' ਕਾ ਪਾਠ, ਏਹੁ ਤੀਨ ਸੰਧ੍ਯਾ ਹੈਂ। ਇਸ ਸੋਹਿਲੇ ਕਾ ਮਹਾਂਤਮੁ ਐਸੇ ਵਿਦਤ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਪੁਰ ਨਗਰ ਮੇਂ ਦੁਪਹਰ ਕੋ ਕਿਸੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਸੈਂਨ ਕਰਤੇ ਥੇ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਜੀ ਚਰਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤੇ ਥੇ। ਅਕਸ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਚਰਨੋਂ ਮੇਂ ਰੁਧਰ ਨਿਕਸਾ ਦੇਖ ਕਰ ਪੂਛਤੇ ਭਏ, ਤਬ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮੁਖ ਸੇਂ ਬਚਨ ਹੂਆ: ਜੋ ਅਮੁਕਾ ਬੱਕ੍ਰੀਯੋਂ ਕੇ ਚਰਾਉਨੇ ਹਾਰਾ ਸੋਹਿਲੇ ਕਾ ਪਾਠੁ ਝਾੜੀਓਂ ਮੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਫਿਰਤਾ ਥਾ, ਮੈ ਭੀ ਪੀਛੇ ਪੀਛੇ ਸੁਨਤਾ ਥਾ, ਇਸੀ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਟੇ ਲਗੇ ਹੈਂ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਹਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਆਰਤੀ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਪੜਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤਹਾਂ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਤਾ ਹੂੰ। ਸੋ ਉਸ ਕੋ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰੋ, ਜੋ ਸੈਂਨ ਸਮੇ ਪਾਠੁ ਕਰੇ ਔਰੁ ਸਮੇ ਨ ਕਰਾ ਕਰੇ। ਇਹ ਮ੍ਰਯਾਦਾ ਸੋਹਿਲੇ ਕੀ ਆਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਸੇਂ ਚਲੀ। ਤੀਨ ਸਬਦੋਂ ਕਾ ਪਾਠੁ ਹੋਤਾ ਰਹਾ। ਏਕ ਸਮੇਂ ਪੰਚਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੇ ਆਗੇ ਏਕ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਸਿਖ ਨੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰੀ, ਕਿ ਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ! ਹਮ ਲੋਕੋਂ ਕੋ ਬਿਦੇਸ ਮੈ ਚੋਰ ਵਾ ਭੂਤਾਦਿਕੋਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭ੍ਯੰਕਰ ਅਸਥਾਨੋ ਮੇਂ ਰਹਨਾ ਹੋਤਾ ਹੈ। ਸੋ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸਰਬ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਰਖ੍ਯਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਐਸਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਹੋ।

ਜੈ ਘਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥

ਜਿਸ (ਸਤਸੰਗ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦ-ਕੁੜੀਏ !)

In that house where the Praises of the Creator are chanted and contemplated

ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਸਿਵਰਿਹੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥੧॥

tit ghar gaavahu sohilaa sivarih sirajanahaaro ||1||

ਉਸ (ਸਤਸੰਗ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ (ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ ।੧।

-in that house, sing Songs of Praise; meditate and remember the Creator Lord. ||1||

ਤੁਮ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕਾ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ॥

tum gaavahu mere nirabhau kaa sohilaa ||

(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ !) ਤੂੰ (ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ) ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ (ਖਸਮ) ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ (ਅਤੇ ਆਖ—)

Sing the Songs of Praise of my Fearless Lord.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੋਹਿਲੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

hau vaaree jit sohilai sadhaa sukh hoi ||1|| rahaau ||

ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਦੇ-ਗੀਤ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

I am a sacrifice to that Song of Praise which brings eternal peace. ||1||Pause||

ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਸਮਾਲੀਅਨਿ ਦੇਖੈਗਾ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

nit nit jeeaRe samaaleean dhekhaigaa dhevanahaar ||

(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ ! ਜਿਸ ਖਸਮ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Day after day, He cares for His beings; the Great Giver watches over all.

ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਨੈ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਾਤੇ ਕਵਣੁ ਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

tere dhaanai keemat naa pavai tis dhaate kavan sumaar ||2||

(ਜਿਸ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ) ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ (ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ !) ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ (ਤੂੰ ਲਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈਂ) ? (ਉਹ ਦਾਤਾਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਹੁਤ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ) ।੨।

Your Gifts cannot be appraised; how can anyone compare to the Giver? ||2||

ਸੰਬਤਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਤੇਲੁ ॥

sa(n)bat saahaa likhiaa mil kar paavahu tel ||

(ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ, ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ ! ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈਆਂ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ—) ਉਹ ਸੰਮਤ ਉਹ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ) ਮਿਥਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਜਦੋਂ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਹੇ-ਚਿੱਠੀ ਆਉਣੀ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਓ !)

The day of my wedding is pre-ordained. Come, gather together and pour the oil over the threshold.

ਦੇਹੁ ਸਜਣ ਅਸੀਸੜੀਆ ਜਿਉ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਲੁ ॥੩॥

ਰਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਂਈਏਂ ਪਾਓ, ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ (ਸਹੇਲੀਓ !) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣੀਆਂ ਅਸੀਸਾਂ ਭੀ ਦਿਓ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਭੀ ਕਰੋ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ।੩।

My friends, give me your blessings, that I may merge with my Lord and Master. ||3||

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਏਹੋ ਪਾਹੁਚਾ ਸਦੜੇ ਨਿਤ ਪਵੰਨਿ ॥

ghar ghar eho paahuchaa sadhaRe nit pava(n)n ||

(ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ) ਇਹ ਸਾਹੇ-ਚਿੱਠੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸੱਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਪੈ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।

Unto each and every home, into each and every heart, this summons is sent out; the call comes each and every day.

ਸਦਣਹਾਰਾ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਦਿਹ ਆਵੰਨਿ ॥੪॥੧॥

sadhanahaaraa simareeaai naanak se dheh aava(n)n ||4||1||

(ਹੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਓ !) ਉਸ ਸੱਦਾ ਭੇਜਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਸਾਡੇ ਭੀ) ਉਹ ਦਿਨ (ਨੇੜੇ) ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੧।

Remember in meditation the One who summons us; O Nanak, that day is drawing near! ||4||1||

ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Raag Aasaa, First Mehla:

ਛਿਅ ਘਰ ਛਿਅ ਗੁਰ ਛਿਅ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥

chhia ghar chhia gur chhia upadhes ||

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ ਹਨ, ਛੇ ਹੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਲਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਛੇ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਧਾਂਤ ਹਨ ।

There are six schools of philosophy, six teachers, and six sets of teachings.

ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਸ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥

ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ-ਗੁਰੂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਇੱਕ ਹੈ । (ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ) ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵੇਸ ਹਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦੇ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ) ।੧।

But the Teacher of teachers is the One, who appears in so many forms. ||1||

ਬਾਬਾ ਜੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਜਿਸ (ਸਤਸੰਗ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ

O Baba: that system in which the Praises of the Creator are sung

ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਤੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

so ghar raakh vaddaiee toi ||1|| rahaau ||

ਉਸ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖ (ਉਸ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਈ ਰੱਖ । ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚ) ਤੇਰੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

-follow that system; in it rests true greatness. ||1||Pause||

ਵਿਸੁਏ ਚਸਿਆ ਘੜੀਆ ਪਹਰਾ ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਮਾਹੁ ਹੋਆ ॥

visue chasiaa ghaReeaa paharaa thitee vaaree maahu hoaa ||

ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਿਸੁਏ, ਚਸੇ, ਘੜੀਆਂ, ਪਹਰ, ਥਿੱਤਾਂ, ਵਾਰ, ਮਹੀਨਾ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੁੱਤਾਂ ਹਨ,

The seconds, minutes and hours, days, weeks and months,

ਸੂਰਜੁ ਏਕੋ ਰੁਤਿ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

sooraj eko rut anek ||

ਪਰ ਸੂਰਜ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ),

and the various seasons originate from the one sun;

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਵੇਸ ॥੨॥੨॥

naanak karate ke kete ves ||2||2||

ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ (ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਆਦਿਕ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਰੂਪ ਹਨ ।੨।੨।

O Nanak, in just the same way, the many forms originate from the Creator. ||2||2||

ਰਾਗੁ ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਰਾਗ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Raag Dhanaasaree, First Mehla:

ਗਗਨ ਮੈ ਥਾਲੁ ਰਵਿ ਚੰਦੁ ਦੀਪਕ ਬਨੇ ਤਾਰਿਕਾ ਮੰਡਲ ਜਨਕ ਮੋਤੀ ॥

gagan mai thaal rav cha(n)dh dheepak bane taarikaa ma(n)ddal janak motee ||

ਸਾਰਾ ਆਕਾਸ਼ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਥਾਲ ਹੈ । ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ (ਉਸ ਥਾਲ ਵਿਚ) ਦੀਵੇ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ । ਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, (ਥਾਲ ਵਿਚ) ਮੋਤੀ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ।

Upon that cosmic plate of the sky, the sun and the moon are the lamps. The stars and their orbs are the studded pearls.

ਧੂਪੁ ਮਲਆਨਲੋ ਪਵਣੁ ਚਵਰੋ ਕਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਬਨਰਾਇ ਫੂਲੰਤ ਜੋਤੀ ॥੧॥

dhoop malaanalo pavan chavaro kare sagal banarai foola(n)t jotee ||1||

ਮਲਯ ਪਰਬਤ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹਵਾ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਧੂਪ (ਧੁਖ ਰਿਹਾ) ਹੈ । ਹਵਾ ਚੌਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ । ਸਾਰੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ-ਰੂਪ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਰਤੀ) ਵਾਸਤੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੧।

The fragrance of sandalwood in the air is the temple incense, and the wind is the fan. All the plants of the world are the altar flowers in offering to You, O Luminous Lord. ||1||

ਕੈਸੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ॥

kaisee aaratee hoi || bhav kha(n)ddanaa teree aaratee ||

ਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ! (ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਤੇਰੀ ਕੈਸੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ !

What a beautiful Aartee, lamp-lit worship service this is! O Destroyer of Fear, this is Your Ceremony of Light.

ਅਨਹਤਾ ਸਬਦ ਵਾਜੰਤ ਭੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

anahataa sabadh vaaja(n)t bheree ||1|| rahaau ||

(ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਮਕ ਰਹੀ) ਇੱਕੋ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰੌ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਾਗਾਰੇ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

The Unstruck Sound-current of the Shabad is the vibration of the temple drums. ||1||Pause||

ਸਹਸ ਤਵ ਨੈਨ ਨਨ ਨੈਨ ਹਹਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਕਉ ਸਹਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਨਨਾ ਏਕ ਤੋੁਹੀ ॥

sahas tav nain nan nain heh toh kau sahas moorat nanaa ek tuohee ||

(ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਹਨ (ਪਰ, ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ । ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।

You have thousands of eyes, and yet You have no eyes. You have thousands of forms, and yet You do not have even one.

ਸਹਸ ਪਦ ਬਿਮਲ ਨਨ ਏਕ ਪਦ ਗੰਧ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਸ ਤਵ ਗੰਧ ਇਵ ਚਲਤ ਮੋਹੀ ॥੨॥

sahas padh bimal nan ek padh ga(n)dh bin sahas tav ga(n)dh iv chalat mohee ||2||

ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪੈਰ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਤੇਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਪੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ । ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੱਕ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਨੱਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ । ਤੇਰੇ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਕੌਤਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੧।

You have thousands of Lotus Feet, and yet You do not have even one foot. You have no nose, but you have thousands of noses. This Play of Yours entrances me. ||2||

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

sabh meh jot jot hai soi ||

ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।

Amongst all is the Light-You are that Light.

ਤਿਸ ਦੈ ਚਾਨਣਿ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

tis dhai chaanan sabh meh chaanan hoi ||

ਉਸ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੇ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ (ਸੂਝ-ਬੂਝ) ਹੈ ।

By this Illumination, that Light is radiant within all.

ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

gur saakhee jot paragaT hoi ||

ਪਰ ਇਸ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ) ।

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Light shines forth.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥

jo tis bhaavai su aaratee hoi ||3||

(ਇਸ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੀ) ਆਰਤੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ) ।੩।

That which is pleasing to Him is the lamp-lit worship service. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਲੋਭਿਤ ਮਨੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੋੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਆਹੀ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥

har charan kaval makara(n)dh lobhit mano anadhinuo moh aahee piaasaa ||

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ-ਰੂਪ ਕੌਲ-ਫੱੁਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਲਈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਲਲਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸੇ ਰਸ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ।

My mind is enticed by the honey-sweet Lotus Feet of the Lord. Day and night, I thirst for them.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਰਿੰਗ ਕਉ ਹੋਇ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੩॥

kirapaa jal dheh naanak saari(n)g kau hoi jaa te terai nai vaasaa ||4||3||

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਪੀਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਦੇਹ, ਜਿਸ (ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ) ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ।੪।੩।

Bestow the Water of Your Mercy upon Nanak, the thirsty song-bird, so that he may come to dwell in Your Name. ||4||3||

Raag Gauree Poorbee, Fourth Mehla:

ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

kaam karodh nagar bahu bhariaa mil saadhoo kha(n)ddal kha(n)ddaa he ||

(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ-) ਸ਼ਹਰ ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਜੋੜ ਨੂੰ) ਤੋੜਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।

The body-village is filled to overflowing with anger and sexual desire; these were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਲਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

poorab likhat likhe gur paiaa man har liv ma(n)ddal ma(n)ddaa he ||1||

ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਵ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੋੜ ਟੱੁਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੧।

By pre-ordained destiny, I have met with the Guru. I have entered into the realm of the Lord's Love. ||1||

ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਅੰਜੁਲੀ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

kar saadhoo a(n)julee pun vaddaa he ||

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ, ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਲਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ।

Greet the Holy Saint with your palms pressed together; this is an act of great merit.

ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡਉਤ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kar dda(n)ddaut pun vaddaa he ||1|| rahaau ||

ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਢਹਿ ਪਉ, ਇਹ ਬੜਾ ਨੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

Bow down before Him; this is a virtuous action indeed. ||1||Pause||

ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

saakat har ras saadh na jaaniaa tin a(n)tar haumai ka(n)ddaa he ||

ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕੰਡਾ ਚੁੱਭਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹ ੈ ।

The wicked shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not know the Taste of the Lord's Sublime Essence. The thorn of egotism is embedded deep within them.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਚਲਹਿ ਚੁਭੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

jiau jiau chaleh chubhai dhukh paaveh jamakaal saheh sir dda(n)ddaa he ||2||

ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਕੰਡਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਚੁੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ-ਰੂਪ ਡੰਡਾ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੨।

The more they walk away, the deeper it pierces them, and the more they suffer in pain, until finally, the Messenger of Death smashes his club against their heads. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

har jan har har naam samaane dhukh janam maran bhav kha(n)ddaa he ||

(ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।

The humble servants of the Lord are absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The pain of birth and the fear of death are eradicated.

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

abinaasee purakh paiaa paramesar bahu sobh kha(n)dd brahama(n)ddaa he ||3||

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਸ਼ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਖੰਡਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩।

They have found the Imperishable Supreme Being, the Transcendent Lord God, and they receive great honor throughout all the worlds and realms. ||3||

ਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਵਡ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

ham gareeb masakeen prabh tere har raakh raakh vadd vaddaa he ||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਾਂ । ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੈਂ । ਸਾਨੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ।

I am poor and meek, God, but I belong to You! Save me-please save me, O Greatest of the Great!

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੪॥

jan naanak naam adhaar Tek hai har naame hee sukh ma(n)ddaa he ||4||4||

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ । ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੪।

Servant Nanak takes the Sustenance and Support of the Naam. In the Name of the Lord, he enjoys celestial peace. ||4||4||

ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਸੰਤ ਟਹਲ ਕੀ ਬੇਲਾ ॥

karau bena(n)tee sunahu mere meetaa sa(n)t Tahal kee belaa ||

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ ! ਸੁਣੋ ! ਮੈਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ—(ਹੁਣ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੈ ।

Listen, my friends, I beg of you: now is the time to serve the Saints!

ਈਹਾ ਖਾਟਿ ਚਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਆਗੈ ਬਸਨੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥

e'eehaa khaaT chalahu har laahaa aagai basan suhelaa ||1||

(ਜੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੋਗੇ, ਤਾਂ) ਇਸ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਜਾਵੋਗੇ, ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਸੌਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ।੧।

In this world, earn the profit of the Lord's Name, and hereafter, you shall dwell in peace. ||1||

ਅਉਧ ਘਟੈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਾਰੇ ॥ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

aaudh ghaTai dhinas rainaare || man gur mil kaaj savaare ||1|| rahaau ||

ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਬੀਤ ਬੀਤ ਕੇ) ਉਮਰ ਘਟਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

This life is diminishing, day and night. Meeting with the Guru, your affairs shall be resolved. ||1||Pause||

ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ਸੰਸੇ ਮਹਿ ਤਰਿਓ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥

eih sa(n)saar bikaar sa(n)se meh tario braham giaanee ||

ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ । (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ) ਤੌਖ਼ਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।

This world is engrossed in corruption and cynicism. Only those who know God are saved.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਗਾਇ ਪੀਆਵੈ ਇਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੨॥

jiseh jagai peeaavai ih ras akath kathaa tin jaanee ||2||

(ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਜਗਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ (ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।੨।

Only those who are awakened by the Lord to drink in this Sublime Essence, come to know the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਆਏ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਹਾਝਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥

jaa kau aae soiee bihaajhahu har gur te maneh baseraa ||

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਇੱਥੇ) ਆਏ ਹੋ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰੋ । ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਹੀ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।

Purchase only that for which you have come into the world, and through the Guru, the Lord shall dwell within your mind.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥

nij ghar mahal paavahu sukh sahaje bahur na hoigo feraa ||3||

(ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਵੋਗੇ, ਤਾਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਵੋਗੇ । ਫਿਰ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ।੩।

Within the home of your own inner being, you shall obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence with intuitive ease. You shall not be consigned again to the wheel of reincarnation. ||3||

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਰੇ ॥

a(n)tarajaamee purakh bidhaate saradhaa man kee poore ||

ਹੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ।

O Inner-knower, Searcher of Hearts, O Primal Being, Architect of Destiny: please fulfill this yearning of my mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਇਹੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੫॥

naanak dhaas ihai sukh maagai mo kau kar sa(n)tan kee dhoore ||4||5||

ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਹ ।੪।੫।

Nanak, Your slave, begs for this happiness: let me be the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||4||5||

ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ikOankaar sat naam karataa purakh nirabhau niravair akaal moorat ajoonee saibha(n) gur prasaadh ||

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ 'ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ' ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ।

ਪਵਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ ॥

pavan guroo paanee pitaa maataa dharat mahat ||

ਪ੍ਰਾਣ (ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਇਉਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਗੁਰੂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਲਈ) ਹੈ, ਪਾਣੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਪਿਉ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ (ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਵੱਡੀ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ।

Air is the Guru, Water is the Father, and Earth is the Great Mother of all.

ਦਿਵਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਦਾਈ ਦਾਇਆ ਖੇਲੈ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥

dhivas raat dhui dhaiee dhaiaa khelai sagal jagat ||

ਦਿਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਖਿਡਾਵਾ ਤੇ ਖਿਡਾਵੀ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਖੇਡ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,

Day and night are each like the nanny and her caregiving husband, in whose lap the whole world is at play.

ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆ ਵਾਚੈ ਧਰਮੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

cha(n)giaaieeaa buriaaieeaa vaachai dharam hadhoor ||

ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਚੰਗੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Good deeds and bad deeds-the record is read out in the Presence of the Lord of Dharma.

ਕਰਮੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਕੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰਿ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

According to their own actions, some are drawn closer, and some are driven farther away.

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਏ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥

jinee naam dhiaaiaa ge masakat ghaal ||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਸਫਲੀ ਕਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ,

Those who have meditated on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and departed after having worked by the sweat of their brows

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਕੇਤੀ ਛੁਟੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਹ ਉੱਜਲ ਮੁਖ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ (ਹੋਰ ਭੀ) ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) (“ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਿ” ਢਾਹ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।੧।

ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਚਿਹਨ ਅਰੁ ਬਰਨ ਜਾਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਤਿ ਨਹਿਨ ਜਿਹ ॥

cha'kr chihan ar baran jaat ar paat nahin jeh ||

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ, ਚਕ੍ਰ, ਵਰਨ, ਜਾਤਿ ਅਤੇ ਗੋਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,

He who is without mark or sign, He who is without caste or line.

ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਅਰੁ ਰੇਖ ਭੇਖ ਕੋਊ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਤਿ ਕਿਹ ॥

roop ra(n)g ar rekh bhekh kouoo keh na sakat keh ||

ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ, ਰੰਗ, ਰੇਖ, ਭੇਖ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕਿ ਉਹ) ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

He who is without colour or form, and without any distinctive norm.

ਅਚਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਨਭਉ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ਅਮਿਤੋਜਿ ਕਹਿੱਜੈ ॥

achal moorat anabhau prakaas amitoj kahi'jai ||

(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਅਚਲ ਸਰੂਪੀ, ਸੁਤਹ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਿਤ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ।

He who is without limit and motion, All effulgence, non-descript Ocean.

ਕੋਟਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਣ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਾਹਾਣਿ ਗਣਿਜੈ ॥

(ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਸੱਤਾ) ਕਰੋੜਾ ਇੰਦਰਾ ਦਾ ਇੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਹਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਗਿਣਿਆ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord of millions of Indras and kings, the Master of all worlds and beings.

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹੀਪ ਸੁਰ ਨਰ ਅਸੁਰ ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਬਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਕਹਤ ॥

tirabhavan maheep sur nar asur net net ban tiran kahat ||

(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਤਿੰਨ ਲੋਕਾ (ਸੁਅਰਗ, ਮਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ) ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ, ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਦੈਂਤ ਅਤੇ ਬਨਾ ਦੇ ਤਿਨਕੇ ਵੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Each twig of the foliage proclaims: “Not this Thou art.”

ਤਵ ਸਰਬ ਨਾਮ ਕਥੈ ਕਵਨ ਕਰਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਰਨਤ ਸੁਮਤਿ ॥੧॥

tav sarab naam kathai kavan karam naam baranat sumat ||1||

(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਾਵਾ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ ਕੌਣ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਬਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਕੁ) ਕਰਮਾਚਾਰੀ (ਉਪਕਾਰੀ) ਨਾਵਾ ਦਾ ਚੰਗੀ ਮਤ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਵਰਣਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

All Thy Names cannot be told. One doth impart Thy Action-Name with benign heart.1.
