bilaaval mahalaa teejaa asaTapadhee ghar dasvaa
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ikOankaar satigur prasaadh ||
ਜਗੁ ਕਊਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਚੁੰਚ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
jag kuooaa mukh chu(n)ch giaan ||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
a(n)tar lobh jhooTh abhimaan ||
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਗੁ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੧॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥

ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਹੋਰ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿੑ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ॥
sabadh cheeni(h) sahaj ghar aavahu ||
ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਾਈ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥

ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
aap na boojhai lok bujhaavai ||
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
man kaa a(n)dhaa a(n)dh kamaavai ||
ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਠਉਰੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
ghaT ghaT a(n)tar jis kee jot samaanee ||
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਿਆ ਚਲੈ ਪਹਨਾਮੀ ॥੪॥
tis naal kiaa chalai pahanaamee ||4||
ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
saachaa naam saachai sabadh jaanai ||
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥
aapai aap milai chookai abhimaanai ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਖਾਨੈ ॥੫॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

ਅਉਗਣ ਕਾਟਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਤਿ ਖਾਈ ॥
aaugan kaaT paapaa mat khaiee ||
ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੬॥
ka(n)chan kaiaa jotee jot samaiee ||6||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
satigur miliaai vaddee vaddiaaiee ||
ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
dhukh kaaTai hiradhai naam vasaiee ||
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
naam rate sadhaa sukh paiee ||7||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
gurmat maaniaa karanee saar ||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
gurmat maaniaa mokh dhuaar ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ਸਾਧਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੧॥੩॥
naanak gurmat maaniaa paravaarai saadhaar ||8||1||3||
English Translation
Bilaaval, Third Mehla, Ashtpadheeyaa, Tenth House:
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
The world is like a crow; with its beak, it croaks spiritual wisdom.
But deep within there is greed, falsehood and pride.
Without the Name of the Lord, your thin outer covering shall wear off, you fool. ||1||
Serving the True Guru, the Naam shall dwell in your conscious mind.
Meeting with the Guru, the Name of the Lord comes to mind. Without the Name, other loves are false. ||1||Pause||
So do that work, which the Guru tells you to do.
Contemplating the Word of the Shabad, you shall come to the home of celestial bliss.
Through the True Name, you shall obtain glorious greatness. ||2||
One who does not understand his own self, but still tries to instruct others,
is mentally blind, and acts in blindness.
How can he ever find a home and a place of rest, in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence? ||3||
Serve the Dear Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts;
deep within each and every heart, His Light is shining forth.
How can anyone hide anything from Him? ||4||
The True Name is known through the True Word of the Shabad.
The Lord Himself meets that one who eradicates egotistical pride.
The Gurmukh chants the Naam, forever and ever. ||5||
Serving the True Guru, duality and evil-mindedness are taken away.
Guilty mistakes are erased, and the sinful intellect is cleansed.
One's body sparkles like gold, and one's light merges into the Light. ||6||
Meeting with the True Guru, one is blessed with glorious greatness.
Pain is taken away, and the Naam comes to dwell within the heart.
Imbued with the Naam, one finds eternal peace. ||7||
Obeying the Gur's instructions, one's actions are purified.
Obeying the Guru's Instructions, one finds the state of salvation.
O Nanak, those who follow the Guru's Teachings are saved, along with their families. ||8||1||3||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਬਿਲਾਵਲ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀ।
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਉਹ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਾਂ (ਵਾਂਗ ਲੌਂ ਲੌਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ, (ਨਿਰਾ) ਮੂੰਹੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਦੱਸਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਚੁੰਝ ਨਾਲ ‘ਕਾਂ ਕਾਂ’ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
(ਪਰ ਉਸ ਚੰੁਚ-ਗਿਆਨੀ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉੱਘੜ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਜਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ (ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਗੁਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ),
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਡੰੂਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਕਰੋ ।
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੋਗੇ ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ) ਆਪ (ਤਾਂ ਕੁਝ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਕੋਰਾ ਹੈ (ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਠੇਡੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਘਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਹਲ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ।੩।
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਲੁਕਾ-ਛਿਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦਾ ।੪।
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ-ਆਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
(ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਾਪਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
(ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੬।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਬੜੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਪਤੀਜਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਆਚਰਨ ਚੰਗਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਮੰਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਪਤੀਜਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੧।੩।
