ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ (Gurmukhi)
ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
salok mahalaa teejaa ||
ਸੋ ਜਪੁ ਸੋ ਤਪੁ ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
so jap so tap j satigur bhaavai ||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
satigur kai bhaanai vaddiaaiee paavai ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
naanak aap chhodd gur maeh samaavai ||1||

mahalaa teejaa ||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਲੇਵੈ ॥
gur kee sikh ko viralaa levai ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਵੈ ॥੨॥
naanak jis aap vaddiaaiee dhevai ||2||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਹੈ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
maiaa moh agiaan hai bikham at bhaaree ||
ਪਥਰ ਪਾਪ ਬਹੁ ਲਦਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
pathar paap bahu ladhiaa kiau tareeaai taaree ||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥
anadhin bhagatee ratiaa har paar utaaree ||
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਛਡਿ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ॥
gur sabadhee man niramalaa haumai chhadd vikaaree ||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
har har naam dhiaaieeaai har har nisataaree ||3||
English Translation
Shalok, Third Mehla:
That alone is chanting, and that alone is deep meditation, which is pleasing to the True Guru.
Pleasing the True Guru, glorious greatness is obtained.
O Nanak, renouncing self-conceit, one merges into the Guru. ||1||
Third Mehla:
How rare are those who receive the Guru's Teachings.
O Nanak, he alone receives it, whom the Lord Himself blesses with glorious greatness. ||2||
Pauree:
Emotional attachment to Maya is spiritual darkness; it is very difficult and such a heavy load.
Loaded with so very many stones of sin, how can the boat cross over?
Those who are attuned to the Lord's devotional worship night and day are carried across.
Under the Instruction of the Guru's Shabad, one sheds egotism and corruption, and the mind becomes immaculate.
Meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; the Lord, Har, Har, is our Saving Grace. ||3||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਸਲੋਕ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾ ਜਾਣਾ (ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਣਾ)—ਇਹੀ ਜਪ ਹੈ ਇਹੀ ਤਪ ਹੈ
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਆਦਰ ਮਾਣ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ)
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਗੁਰ-ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
ਪਉੜੀ।
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਅਗਿਆਨ (ਰੂਪ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਬੜਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ
ਜੇ ਬੜੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ (ਰੂਪ) ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦੇ ਹੋਵੀਏ (ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਤਰ ਕੇ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਭਾਵ, ਇਸ ਮੋਹ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੁੱਕਾ ਬਚ ਕੇ ਲੰਘ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੀਦਾ) ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
(ਸੋ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ‘ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ’ ਰੂਪ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
