ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
soohee mahalaa pehilaa ||
ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
manahu na naam visaar ahinis dhiaaieeaai ||
ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
jiau raakheh kirapaa dhaar tivai sukh paieeaai ||1||
ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਕੁਟੀ ਟੋਹਣੀ ॥
mai a(n)dhule har naam lakuTee Tohanee ||
ਰਹਉ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਨ ਮੋਹੈ ਮੋਹਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਲਿਆ ॥
jeh dhekhau teh naal gur dhekhaaliaa ||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥੨॥
a(n)tar baahar bhaal sabadh nihaaliaa ||2||
ਸੇਵੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥
sevee satigur bhai naam nira(n)janaa ||
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਜਾਇ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨਾ ॥੩॥
tudh bhaavai tivai rajai bharam bhau bha(n)janaa ||3||
ਜਨਮਤ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਰਣਾ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥
janamat hee dhukh laagai maranaa aai kai ||
ਜਨਮੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੪॥
janam maran paravaan har gun gai kai ||4||
ਹਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੂ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤੁਧ ਹੀ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥
hau naahee too hoveh tudh hee saajiaa ||
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ॥੫॥
aape thaap uthaap sabadh nivaajiaa ||5||
ਦੇਹੀ ਭਸਮ ਰੁਲਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਪੀ ਕਹ ਗਇਆ ॥
dhehee bhasam rulai na jaapee keh giaa ||
ਆਪੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ਸੋ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੬॥
aape rahiaa samai so visamaadh bhiaa ||6||
ਤੂੰ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੂਰਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੂ ਹੈ ॥
too(n) naahee prabh dhoor jaaneh sabh too hai ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੀ ਤੂ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
gurmukh vekh hadhoor a(n)tar bhee too hai ||7||
ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
mai dheejai naam nivaas a(n)tar saa(n)t hoi ||
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥੮॥੩॥੫॥
gun gaavai naanak dhaas satigur mat dhei ||8||3||5||
English Translation
Soohee, First Mehla:
Never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, from your mind; night and day, meditate on it.
As You keep me, in Your Merciful Grace, so do I find peace. ||1||
I am blind, and the Lord's Name is my cane.
I remain under the Sheltering Support of my Lord and Master; I am not enticed by Maya the enticer. ||1||Pause||
Wherever I look, there the Guru has shown me that God is always with me.
Searching inwardly and outwardly as well, I came to see Him, through the Word of the Shabad. ||2||
So serve the True Guru with love, through the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.
As it pleases You, so by Your Will, You destroy my doubts and fears. ||3||
At the very moment of birth, he is afflicted with pain, and in the end, he comes only to die.
Birth and death are validated and approved, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||
When there is no ego, there You are; You fashioned all of this.
You Yourself establish and disestablish; through the Word of Your Shabad, You elevate and exalt. ||5||
When the body rolls in the dust, it is not known where the soul has gone.
He Himself is permeating and pervading; this is wonderful and amazing! ||6||
You are not far away, God; You know everything.
The Gurmukh sees You ever-present; You are deep within the nucleus of our inner self. ||7||
Please, bless me with a home in Your Name; may my inner self be at peace.
May slave Nanak sing Your Glorious Praises; O True Guru, please share the Teachings with me. ||8||3||5||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਸੂਹੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾ । ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ—ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਏ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਡੰਗੋਰੀ (ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ) ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ) ਟੋਹਣੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਟੋਹ ਟੋਹ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹਾਂ)
ਜਦੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਧਰ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ
ਬਾਹਰ ਲੱਭ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਹੁਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
ਹੇ ਭਰਮ ਤੇ ਭਉ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੩।
(ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦੇਈਏ ਤਾਂ) ਜੰਮਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਆ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਫਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਨਿਵਾਜਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ (ਪਰਗਟ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ‘ਹਉਮੈ’ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ।੫।
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਲਾ ਕੇ, ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ, ਕਿੱਥੇ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਪਰ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ।੬।
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੈ
ਅੰਦਰ ਭੀ ਤੁੂੰ ਹੈਂ (ਬਾਹਰ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੈਂ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ-ਨਾਜ਼ਰ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।੭।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ
(ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਦਾਸ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੩।੫।
