ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
bilaaval mahalaa chauthhaa ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖਈਆ ॥
gurmukh agam agochar dhiaaiaa hau bal bal satigur sat purakhieeaa ||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥
raam naam merai praan vasaae satigur paras har naam samieeaa ||1||
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਟਿਕਈਆ ॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਧਰ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਾਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਥਿ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢਈਆ ॥

ਲਾਲੁ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਪਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਅਈਆ ॥੨॥

ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਜ ਭਈਆ ॥
dhaasan dhaas dhaas hoi raheeaai jo jan raam bhagat nij bhieeaa ||
ਮਨੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਈਆ ॥੩॥

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਤਿਖਈਆ ॥

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਈਆ ॥੪॥

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੂਰ ਵਜਈਆ ॥

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਚਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰਈਆ ॥੫॥
har har usatat karai dhin raatee rakh rakh charan har taal poorieeaa ||5||
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਾਲ ਰਸਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵਈਆ ॥
har kai ra(n)g rataa man gaavai ras rasaal ras sabadh ravieeaa ||
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਧਾਰ ਚੁਐ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੬॥
nij ghar dhaar chuaai at niramal jin peeaa tin hee sukh laheeaa ||6||
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਕ ਬਾਲੂ ਘਰ ਉਸਰਈਆ ॥

ਆਵੈ ਲਹਰਿ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੀ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਢਹਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥
aavai lahar samu(n)dh saagar kee khin meh bhi(n)n bhi(n)n ddeh pieeaa ||7||
ਹਰਿ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਖੇਲਈਆ ॥
har sar saagar har hai aape ih jag hai sabh khel khelieeaa ||
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਤਰੰਗ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਰਮਈਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥
jiau jal tara(n)g jal jaleh samaaveh naanak aape aap ramieeaa ||8||3||6||
English Translation
Bilaaval, Fourth Mehla:
The Gurmukh meditates on the Inaccessible, Unfathomable Lord. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the True Guru, the True Primal Being.
He has brought the Lord's Name to dwell upon my breath of life; meeting with the True Guru, I am absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||1||
The Name of the Lord is the only Support of His humble servants.
I shall live under the protection of the True Guru. By Guru's Grace, I shall attain the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
This body is the field of karma; the Gurmukhs plow and work it, and harvest the essence.
The priceless jewel of the Naam becomes manifest, and it pours into their vessels of love. ||2||
Become the slave of the slave of the slave, of that humble being who has become the devotee of the Lord.
I dedicate my mind and intellect, and place them in offering before my Guru; by Guru's Grace, I speak the Unspoken. ||3||
The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in attachment to Maya; their minds are thirsty, burning with desire.
Following the Guru's Teachings, I have obtained the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, and the fire has been put out. The Word of the Guru's Shabad has put it out. ||4||
This mind dances before the True Guru. The unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds, vibrating the celestial melody.
I praise the Lord, day and night, moving my feet to the beat of the drum. ||5||
Imbued with the Lord's Love, my mind sings His Praise, joyfully chanting the Shabad, the source of nectar and bliss.
The stream of immaculate purity flows through the home of the self within; one who drinks it in, finds peace. ||6||
The stubborn-minded, egotistical, proud-minded person performs rituals, but these are like sand castles built by children.
When the waves of the ocean come in, they crumble and dissolve in an instant. ||7||
The Lord is the pool, and the Lord Himself is the ocean; this world is all a play which He has staged.
As the waves of water merge into the water again, O Nanak, so does He merge into Himself. ||8||3||6||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਬਿਲਾਵਲ ਚੌਥੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਤਕ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਸੁਆਸ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਤੇ) ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਮਹਲ) ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮੈਂ) ਦਾਸ (ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹੀ) ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ (ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ) ਕਰਮ (-ਬੀਜ) ਬੀਜੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ । (ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਦੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ ਰਿੜਕ ਰਿੜਕ ਕੇ ਮੱਖਣ ਕੱਢ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ,) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਧ ਸੋਧ ਕੇ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ) ।
(ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਮਹਾਨ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ (ਹਿਰਦਾ-) ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਭਗਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਮਨ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਦਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ (ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਗਈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੇ ਬੁਝਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ।੪।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਮਨ ਜਿਧਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਧਰ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰੌ ਦੇ ਇਕ-ਰਸ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਵਸਾ ਕੇ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ-ਤੋਰ) ਤਾਲ-ਸਿਰ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-) ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ) ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ (ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਦੀ) ਬੜੀ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸੁਥਰੀ ਧਾਰ ਚੋਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ) ਪੀਤਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ।੬।
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ (ਮਿੱਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮੀ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਫਿਰ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹਨ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਰੇਤ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਉਸਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਹ ਘਰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਣਕਾ ਕਿਣਕਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਢਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੭।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਸਰੋਵਰ ਹੈ, ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਹਨ) ।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ (ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ) ਪਾਣੀ (ਹੀ ਹਨ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਰਾਮ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ ।੮।੩।
