ਆਸਾ ॥
aasaa ||
ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਗਜੁ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਾਤੀ ॥
man mero gaj jihabaa meree kaatee ||
ਮਪਿ ਮਪਿ ਕਾਟਉ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥੧॥
map map kaaTau jam kee faasee ||1||
ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਜਾਤੀ ਕਹ ਕਰਉ ਪਾਤੀ ॥
kahaa karau jaatee keh karau paatee ||
ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਉ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam ko naam japau dhin raatee ||1|| rahaau ||
ਰਾਂਗਨਿ ਰਾਂਗਉ ਸੀਵਨਿ ਸੀਵਉ ॥

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰੀਅ ਨ ਜੀਵਉ ॥੨॥
raam naam bin ghareea na jeevau ||2||
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਉ ॥
bhagat karau har ke gun gaavau ||
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਅਪਨਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥੩॥
aaTh pahar apanaa khasam dhiaavau ||3||
ਸੁਇਨੇ ਕੀ ਸੂਈ ਰੁਪੇ ਕਾ ਧਾਗਾ ॥
suine kee sooiee rupe kaa dhaagaa ||
ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਉ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੩॥
naame kaa chit har sau laagaa ||4||3||
English Translation
Aasaa:
My mind is the yardstick, and my tongue is the scissors.
I measure it out and cut off the noose of death. ||1||
What do I have to do with social status? What do I have to with ancestry?
I meditate on the Name of the Lord, day and night. ||1||Pause||
I dye myself in the color of the Lord, and sew what has to be sewn.
Without the Lord's Name, I cannot live, even for a moment. ||2||
I perform devotional worship, and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate on my Lord and Master. ||3||
My needle is gold, and my thread is silver.
Naam Dayv's mind is attached to the Lord. ||4||3||

ਆਸਾ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਗਜ਼ (ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ), ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭ ਕੈਂਚੀ (ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ),
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਜਪ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ-ਰੂਪ ਗਜ਼ ਨਾਲ) ਕੱਛ ਕੱਛ ਕੇ (ਜੀਭ-ਕੈਂਚੀ ਨਾਲ) ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਕਿਸੇ (ਉੱਚੀ-ਨੀਵੀਂ) ਜ਼ਾਤ-ਗੋਤ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ,
ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
(ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ) ਮੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ) ਰੰਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸੀਊਣ ਸੀਊਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੀਉ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ।੩।
ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਸੂਈ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਇਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ) ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦਾ ਧਾਗਾ ਹੈ;
(ਇਹ ਸੂਈ ਧਾਗੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮੇ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੩।
