ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
aasaa mahalaa teejaa ||
ਅਨ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਭੋਲਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੈ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇ ॥
an ras meh bholaiaa bin naamai dhukh pai ||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਜਿ ਸਚੀ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥੧॥
satigur purakh na bheTio j sachee boojh bujhai ||1||
ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਵਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਖਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
e man mere baavale har ras chakh saadh pai ||
ਅਨ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਤੂੰ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
eis jug meh gurmukh niramale sach naam raheh liv lai ||
ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
vin karamaa kichh paieeaai nahee kiaa kar kahiaa jai ||2||
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਨਹੁ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
aap pachhaaneh sabadh mareh manahu taj vikaar ||
ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰ ॥੩॥
gur saranaiee bhaj pe bakhase bakhasanahaar ||3||
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin naavai sukh na paieeaai naa dhukh vichahu jai ||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥੪॥
eih jag maiaa moh viaapiaa dhoojai bharam bhulai ||4||
ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
dhohaaganee pir kee saar na jaanahee kiaa kar kareh seegaar ||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਜਲਦੀਆ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸੇਜੈ ਰਵੈ ਨ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
anadhin sadhaa jaladheeaa fireh sejai ravai na bhataar ||5||
ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
sohaaganee mahal paiaa vichahu aap gavai ||
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੀਆ ਅਪਣੇ ਸਹਿ ਲਈਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੬॥
gur sabadhee seegaareeaa apane seh lieeaa milai ||6||
ਮਰਣਾ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
maranaa manahu visaariaa maiaa moh gubaar ||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਭੀ ਮਰਹਿ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੭॥
manmukh mar mar ja(n)meh bhee mareh jam dhar hoh khuaar ||7||
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਸੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
aap milaian se mile gur sabadh veechaar ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੨੨॥੧੫॥੩੭॥
naanak naam samaane mukh ujale tit sachai dharabaar ||8||22||15||37||
English Translation
AASAA, THIRD MEHL:
He wanders around, engrossed in other pleasures, but without the Naam, he suffers in pain. He does not meet the True Guru, the Primal Being, who imparts true understanding. || 1 ||
O my insane mind, drink in the sublime essence of the Lord, and savor its taste. Attached to other pleasures, you wander around, and your life wastes away uselessly. || 1 || Pause ||
In this age, the Gurmukhs are pure; they remain absorbed in the love of the True Name. Without the destiny of good karma, nothing can be obtained; what can we say or do? || 2 ||
He understands his own self, and dies in the Word of the Shabad; he banishes corruption from his mind. He hurries to the Guru’s Sanctuary, and is forgiven by the Forgiving Lord. || 3 ||
Without the Name, peace is not obtained, and pain does not depart from within. This world is engrossed in attachment to Maya; it has gone astray in duality and doubt. || 4 ||
The forsaken soul-brides do not know the value of their Husband Lord; how can they decorate themselves? Night and day, they continually burn, and they do not enjoy the Bed of their Husband Lord. || 5 ||
The happy soul-brides obtain the Mansion of His Presence, eradicating their self-conceit from within. They decorate themselves with the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and their Husband Lord unites them with Himself. || 6 ||
He has forgotten death, in the darkness of attachment to Maya. The self-willed manmukhs die again and again, and are reborn; they die again, and are miserable at the Gate of Death. || 7 ||
They alone are united, whom the Lord unites with Himself; they contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. O Nanak, they are absorbed in the Naam; their faces are radiant, in that True Court. || 8 || 22 || 15 || 37 ||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਿੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਝੱਲੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰੱਸ ਚੱਖ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਲੈ । ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਪਰ ਕੀਹ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਏ? ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।੨।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੜਤਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਨ ਰਸਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਹੀ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦ ਹਰੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ । ਪਰ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲ ਕੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।
(ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਨ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਇਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਛੁੱਟੜਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੀਆਂ, ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ (ਅੰਦਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸੜਦੀਆਂ ਫਿਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਖਸਮ ਕਦੇ ਸੇਜ ਉਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।੫।
ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।੬।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਮ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੭।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੮।੨੨।੧੫।੩੭।
