ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
vaddaha(n)s mahalaa teejaa ||
ਮਨੂਆ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਓਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
manooaa dheh dhis dhaavadhaa oh kaise har gun gaavai ||
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਆਪਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਤ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
ei(n)dhree viaap rahee adhikaiee kaam karodh nit sa(n)taavai ||1||
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥
vaahu vaahu sahaje gun raveejai ||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਲਭੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam is jug meh dhulabh hai gurmat har ras peejai ||1|| rahaau ||
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
sabadh cheen man niramal hovai taa har ke gun gaavai ||
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
gurmatee aapai aap pachhaanai taa nij ghar vaasaa paavai ||2||
ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
e man mere sadhaa ra(n)g raate sadhaa har ke gun gaau ||
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਉ ॥੩॥
har niramal sadhaa sukhadhaataa man chi(n)dhiaa fal paau ||3||
ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਸੇ ਊਤਮ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
ham neech se uootam bhe har kee saranaiee ||
ਪਾਥਰੁ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਆ ਸਾਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥
paathar ddubadhaa kaadd leeaa saachee vaddiaaiee ||4||
ਬਿਖੁ ਸੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
bikh se a(n)mirat bhe gurmat budh paiee ||
ਅਕਹੁ ਪਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੫॥
akahu paramal bhe a(n)tar vaasanaa vasaiee ||5||
ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਖਟਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
maanas janam dhula(n)bh hai jag meh khaTiaa aai ||
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੬॥
poorai bhaag satigur milai har naam dhiaai ||6||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਗੇ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
manmukh bhoole bikh lage ahilaa janam gavaiaa ||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
har kaa naam sadhaa sukh saagar saachaa sabadh na bhaiaa ||7||
ਮੁਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
mukhahu har har sabh ko karai viralai hiradhai vasaiaa ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਿਨੑ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak jin kai hiradhai vasiaa mokh mukat tin(h) paiaa ||8||2||
English Translation
Wadahans, Third Mehla:
His mind wanders in the ten directions - how can he sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord?
The sensory organs are totally engrossed in sensuality; sexual desire and anger constantly afflict him. ||1||
Waaho! Waaho! Hail! Hail! Chant His Glorious Praises.
The Lord's Name is so difficult to obtain in this age; under Guru's Instruction, drink in the subtle essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
Remembering the Word of the Shabad, the mind becomes immaculately pure, and then, one sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
Under Guru's Instruction, one comes to understand his own self, and then, he comes to dwell in the home of his inner self. ||2||
O my mind, be imbued forever with the Lord's Love, and sing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
The Immaculate Lord is forever the Giver of peace; from Him, one receives the fruits of his heart's desires. ||3||
I am lowly, but I have been exalted, entering the Sanctuary of the Lord.
He has lifted up the sinking stone; True is His glorious greatness. ||4||
From poison, I have been transformed into Ambrosial Nectar; under Guru's Instruction, I have obtained wisdom.
From bitter herbs, I have been transformed into sandalwood; this fragrance permeates me deep within. ||5||
This human birth is so precious; one must earn the right to come into the world.
By perfect destiny, I met the True Guru, and I meditate on the Lord's Name. ||6||
The self-willed manmukhs are deluded; attached to corruption, they waste away their lives in vain.
The Name of the Lord is forever an ocean of peace, but the manmukhs do not love the Word of the Shabad. ||7||
Everyone can chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har with their mouths, but only a few enshrine it within their hearts.
O Nanak, those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts, attain liberation and emancipation. ||8||2||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਵਡਹੰਸ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹੋਛਾ ਮਨ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਤਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਦੁਰਲਭ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪੇ੍ਰਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹੁ, ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ) ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ ।੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੀਚਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪੱਥਰ-ਚਿੱਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਅਕਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਅੱਕ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਦਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਸੁੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ।੫।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ) ਖੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਣੋ
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਗੰਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ।੭।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ) ਤਾਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੮।੨।
