ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ਘਰੁ ੮ ਕਾਫੀ ॥
raag aasaa mahalaa teejaa asaTapadheeaa ghar atthvaa kaafee ||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
gur te saa(n)t uoopajai jin tirasanaa agan bujhaiee ||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥
gur te naam paieeaai vaddee vaddiaaiee ||1||
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
eko naam chet mere bhaiee ||
ਜਗਤੁ ਜਲੰਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jagat jala(n)dhaa dhekh kai bhaj pe saranaiee ||1|| rahaau ||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਹਾ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
gur te giaan uoopajai mahaa tat beechaaraa ||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
gur te ghar dhar paiaa bhagatee bhare bha(n)ddaaraa ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਬੂਝੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
gurmukh naam dhiaaieeaai boojhai veechaaraa ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
gurmukh bhagat salaeh hai a(n)tar sabadh apaaraa ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੂਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
gurmukh sookh uoopajai dhukh kadhe na hoiee ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
gurmukh haumai maareeaai man niramal hoiee ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
satigur miliaai aap giaa tirabhavan sojhee paiee ||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਸਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
niramal jot pasar rahee jotee jot milaiee ||5||
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਈ ॥
poorai gur samajhaiaa mat uootam hoiee ||
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥
a(n)tar seetal saa(n)t hoi naame sukh hoiee ||6||
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
pooraa satigur taa(n) milai jaa(n) nadhar kareiee ||
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
kilavikh paap sabh kaTe'eeh fir dhukh bighan na hoiee ||7||
ਆਪਣੈ ਹਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
aapanai hath vaddiaaieeaa dhe naame laae ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਏ ॥੮॥੪॥੨੬॥
naanak naam nidhaan man vasiaa vaddiaaiee paae ||8||4||26||
English Translation
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
Raag Aasaa, Third Mehla, Ashtpadheeyaa, Eighth House, Kaafee:
Peace emanates from the Guru; He puts out the fire of desire.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained from the Guru; it is the greatest greatness. ||1||
Keep the One Name in your consciousness, O my Siblings of Destiny.
Seeing the world on fire, I have hurried to the Lord's Sanctuary. ||1||Pause||
Spiritual wisdom emanates from the Guru; reflect upon the supreme essence of reality.
Through the Guru, the Lord's Mansion and His Court are attained; His devotional worship is overflowing with treasures. ||2||
The Gurmukh meditates on the Naam; he achieves reflective meditation and understanding.
The Gurmukh is the Lord's devotee, immersed in His Praises; the Infinite Word of the Shabad dwells within him. ||3||
Happiness emanates from the Gurmukh; he never suffers pain.
The Gurmukh conquers his ego, and his mind is immaculately pure. ||4||
Meeting the True Guru, self-conceit is removed, and understanding of the three worlds is obtained.
The Immaculate Divine Light is pervading and permeating everywhere; one's light merges into the Light. ||5||
The Perfect Guru instructs, and one's intellect becomes sublime.
A cooling and soothing peace comes within, and through the Naam, peace is obtained. ||6||
One meets the Perfect True Guru only when the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace.
All sins and vices are eradicated, and one shall never again suffer pain or distress. ||7||
Glory is in His Hands; He bestows His Name, and attaches us to it.
O Nanak, the treasure of the Naam abides within the mind, and glory is obtained. ||8||4||26||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਫੀ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ (ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ), ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਠੰਢ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਵੱਡਾ ਆਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।
ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਸਰਨ ਦੌੜ ਕੇ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।੧।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਇਸ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ
ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੫।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਅਕਲ ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੜਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ) ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
(ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ।੭।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੀਆਂ) ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਇੱਜ਼ਤ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੪।੨੬।
