ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਛੰਤ ॥
bihaagaRaa mahalaa panjavaa chha(n)t ||
ਸੁਨਹੁ ਬੇਨੰਤੀਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
sunahu bena(n)teeaa suaamee mere raam ||
ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧ ਭਰੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਚੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
koT apraadh bhare bhee tere chere raam ||
ਦੁਖ ਹਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਨ ਮੋਹਨ ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸਹ ਭੰਜਨਾ ॥
dhukh haran kirapaa karan mohan kal kaleseh bha(n)janaa ||
ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥
saran teree rakh leh meree sarab mai nira(n)janaa ||
ਸੁਨਤ ਪੇਖਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨੇਰਹੂ ਤੇ ਨੇਰੇ ॥
sunat pekhat sa(n)g sabh kai prabh nerahoo te nere ||
ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਘਰ ਕੇ ਚੇਰੇ ॥੧॥
aradhaas naanak sun suaamee rakh leh ghar ke chere ||1||
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
too samarath sadhaa ham dheen bhekhaaree raam ||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਕਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
maiaa moh magan kadd leh muraaree raam ||
ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਅਨਿਕ ਦੋਖ ਕਮਾਵਨੇ ॥
lobh moh bikaar baadhio anik dhokh kamaavane ||
ਅਲਿਪਤ ਬੰਧਨ ਰਹਤ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਨਾ ਪਾਵਨੇ ॥
alipat ba(n)dhan rahat karataa keeaa apanaa paavane ||
ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੇ ਹਾਰੀ ॥
kar anugrahu patit paavan bahu jon bhramate haaree ||
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
binava(n)t naanak dhaas har kaa prabh jeea praan adhaaree ||2||
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਵਡਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਥੋਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
too samarath vaddaa meree mat thoree raam ||
ਪਾਲਹਿ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਨਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
paaleh akirataghanaa pooran dhirasaT teree raam ||
ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਰਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
agaadh bodh apaar karate moh neech kachhoo na jaanaa ||
ਰਤਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਨ ਕਉਡੀ ਪਸੂ ਨੀਚੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥
ratan tiaag sa(n)grahan kauddee pasoo neech iaanaa ||
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਚਲਤੀ ਮਹਾ ਚੰਚਲਿ ਦੋਖ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਰੀ ॥
tiaag chalatee mahaa cha(n)chal dhokh kar kar joree ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੋਰੀ ॥੩॥
naanak saran samarath suaamee paij raakhahu moree ||3||
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਵੀਛੁੜਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
jaa te veechhuRiaa tin aap milaiaa raam ||
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਮੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
saadhoo sa(n)game har gun gaiaa raam ||
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਸਦਾ ਨੀਕੇ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਮੈ ਪਰਗਟ ਭਏ ॥
gun gai govidh sadhaa neeke kaliaan mai paragaT bhe ||
ਸੇਜਾ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਿ ਲਏ ॥
sejaa suhaavee sa(n)g prabh kai aapane prabh kar le ||
ਛੋਡਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਹੋਏ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
chhodd chi(n)t achi(n)t hoe bahuR dhookh na paiaa ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਵੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੮॥

English Translation
Bihaagraa, Fifth Mehla, Chhant:
Listen to my prayer, O my Lord and Master.
I am filled with millions of sins, but still, I am Your slave.
O Destroyer of pain, Bestower of Mercy, Fascinating Lord, Destroyer of sorrow and strife,
I have come to Your Sanctuary; please preserve my honor. You are all-pervading, O Immaculate Lord.
He hears and beholds all; God is with us, the nearest of the near.
O Lord and Master, hear Nanak's prayer; please save the servants of Your household. ||1||
You are eternal and all-powerful; I am a mere beggar, Lord.
I am intoxicated with the love of Maya - save me, Lord!
Bound down by greed, emotional attachment and corruption, I have made so many mistakes.
The creator is both attached and detached from entanglements; one obtains the fruits of his own actions.
Show kindness to me, O Purifier of sinners; I am so tired of wandering through reincarnation.
Prays Nanak, I am the slave of the Lord; God is the Support of my soul, and my breath of life. ||2||
You are great and all-powerful; my understanding is so inadequate, O Lord.
You cherish even the ungrateful ones; Your Glance of Grace is perfect, Lord.
Your wisdom is unfathomable, O Infinite Creator. I am lowly, and I know nothing.
Forsaking the jewel, I have saved the shell; I am a lowly, ignorant beast.
I have kept that which forsakes me, and is very fickle, continually committing sins, again and again.
Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary, Almighty Lord and Master; please, preserve my honor. ||3||
I was separated from Him, and now, He has united me with Himself.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
Singing the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, the ever-sublime blissful Lord is revealed to me.
My bed is adorned with God; my God has made me His own.
Abandoning anxiety, I have become carefree, and I shall not suffer in pain any longer.
Nanak lives by beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, the ocean of excellence. ||4||5||8||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਛੰਤ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ ।
(ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ) ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਬੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ ।
ਹੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਮੋਹਨ! ਹੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ਲੈ ।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੱਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ ।
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲੈ ।੧।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ ।
ਹੇ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੱਢ ਲੈ ।
ਮੈਂ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ, ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ, ਵਿਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਭੁਗਤਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ।
ਹੇ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ) ਥੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਡੱਪਣ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ) ।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ-ਸਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਨਾ-ਸ਼ੁਕਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ (ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਬਤ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਉਡੀਆਂ ਇਕੱਠੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਪਸੂ-ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹਾਂ, ਨੀਵਾਂ ਹਾਂ, ਅੰਞਾਣ ਹਾਂ ।
ਮੈਂ ਪਾਪ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਕਦੇ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠਦੀ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ਲੈ ।੩।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ)
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ (ਉਹ ਚਿਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ।
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਗੀਤ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਨੰਦ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਸੇਜ ਆਨੰਦ-ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ-ਚਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੪।੫।੮।
