ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
salok mahalaa teejaa ||
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਟਿਆ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
eis jug meh bhagatee har dhan khaTiaa hor sabh jagat bharam bhulaiaa ||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
gur parasaadhee naam man vasiaa anadhin naam dhiaaiaa ||
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥
bikhiaa maeh udhaas hai haumai sabadh jalaiaa ||
ਆਪਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
aap tariaa kul udhare dha(n)n janedhee maiaa ||
ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
sadhaa sahaj sukh man vasiaa sache siau liv laiaa ||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭੁਲੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਮੋਨੀ ਭੁਲੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਭੁਲੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jogee ja(n)gam sa(n)niaasee bhule vin gur tat na paiaa ||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੁਖੀਏ ਸਦਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
manmukh dhukhe'ee sadhaa bhram bhule tin(h)ee birathaa janam gavaiaa ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਸਮਧੇ ਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਸਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
naanak so saalaaheeaai jis vas sabh kichh hoi ||
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਹੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
tiseh sarevahu praaneeho tis bin avar na koi ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਨ ਖਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਦੇਵਾਲੀਏ ਜੁਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
jinee gurmukh har naam dhan na khaTio se dhevaale'ee jug maeh ||
ਓਇ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਭ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਮੁਹਿ ਥੁਕ ਨ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
oi ma(n)gadhe fireh sabh jagat meh koiee muh thuk na tin kau paeh ||
ਪਰਾਈ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਖੋਵਨਿ ਸਗਵਾ ਭੀ ਆਪੁ ਲਖਾਹਿ ॥
paraiee bakheelee kareh aapanee parateet khovan sagavaa bhee aap lakhaeh ||
ਜਿਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਓਇ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
jis dhan kaaran chugalee kareh so dhan chugalee hath na aavai oi bhaavai tithai jaeh ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਥਹੁ ਕਰਮਹੀਣ ਲੈ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੮॥
gurmukh sevak bhai har dhan milai tithahu karamaheen lai na sakeh hor thai dhes dhisa(n)tar har dhan naeh ||8||
English Translation
SHALOK, THIRD MEHL:
In this age, the devotee earns the wealth of the Lord; all the rest of the world wanders deluded in doubt. By Guru’s Grace, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in his mind; night and day, he meditates on the Naam. In the midst of corruption, he remains detached; through the Word of the Shabad, he burns away his ego. He crosses over, and saves his relatives as well; blessed is the mother who gave birth to him. Peace and poise fill his mind forever, and he embraces love for the True Lord. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva wander in the three qualities, while their egotism and desire increase. The Pandits, the religious scholars and the silent sages read and debate in confusion; their consciousness is centered on the love of duality. The Yogis, wandering pilgrims and Sanyaasees are deluded; without the Guru, they do not find the essence of reality. The miserable self-willed manmukhs are forever deluded by doubt; they waste away their lives uselessly. O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam are balanced and poised; forgiving them, the Lord blends them with Himself. || 1 ||
THIRD MEHL: O Nanak, praise Him, who has control over everything. Remember Him, O mortals — without Him, there is no other at all. He dwells deep within those who are Gurmukh; forever and ever, they are at peace. || 2 ||
PAUREE: Those who do not become Gurmukh and earn the wealth of the Lord’s Name, are bankrupt in this age. They wander around begging all over the world, but no one even spits in their faces. They gossip about others, and lose their credit, and expose themselves as well. That wealth, for which they slander others, does not come into their hands, no matter where they go. Through loving service, the Gurmukhs receive the wealth of the Naam, but the unfortunate ones cannot receive it. This wealth is not found anywhere else, in this country or in any other. || 8 ||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ (ਪੈ ਕੇ, ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ (ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੰਮਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਂ! ਉਹ ਆਪ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ) ਕੁਲਾਂ ਭੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ । (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ, ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ (ਵਰਗੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਦੇ ਰਹੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਹਉਮੈ ਵਧਦੀ ਰਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਮੋਹ ਵਧਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ । (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਪੰਡਿਤ (ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਭੀ) ਖੁੰਝਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਮੁਨੀ ਲੋਕ (ਮੋਨ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ) ਖੁੰਝਦੇ ਰਹੇ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਭੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਵਸਤ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਭੀ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਗਵਾਇਆ । ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਇਖ਼ਤਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਓ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ । ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਮਾਇਆ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਚੁਕੇ ਸਮਝੋ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੁਆਰੀਆ ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) । ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮੰਗਤਿਆਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਥੁੱਕਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਇਤਬਾਰ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਗੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ (ਭੈੜਾ) ਅਸਲਾ ਨਸ਼ਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਥੇ ਜੀ ਚਾਹੇ ਜਾਣ, ਜਿਸ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ (ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ) ਚੁਗ਼ਲੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਚੁਗਲੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਧਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੇਵਕ-ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰ ਉਹ (ਨਿੰਦਕ) ਅਭਾਗੇ ਉਥੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ-ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਇਹ ਧਨ ਲੈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ (ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ-ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।੮।
