ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
salok mahalaa teejaa ||
ਪੜਣਾ ਗੁੜਣਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
paRanaa guRanaa sa(n)saar kee kaar hai a(n)dhar tirasanaa vikaar ||
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭਿ ਪੜਿ ਥਕੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
haumai vich sabh paR thake dhoojai bhai khuaar ||
ਸੋ ਪੜਿਆ ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਬੀਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
so paRiaa so pa(n)ddit beenaa gur sabadh kare veechaar ||
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਜੈ ਤਤੁ ਲਹੈ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
a(n)dhar khojai tat lahai paae mokh dhuaar ||
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gun nidhaan har paiaa sahaj kare veechaar ||
ਧੰਨੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

ਵਿਣੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਿਝਈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
vin man maare koi na sijhiee vekhahu ko liv lai ||
ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ਤੀਰਥੀ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਨਾ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bhekhadhaaree teerathee bhav thake naa eh man maariaa jai ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
gurmukh eh man jeevat marai sach rahai liv lai ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਇਉ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੨॥

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਹੁ ਇਕ ਕਿਨਕਾ ॥
har har sa(n)t milahu mere bhaiee har naam dhiraRaavahu ik kinakaa ||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਨਾਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਪਹਿਰਹੁ ਖਿਮ ਕਾ ॥
har har seegaar banaavahu har jan har kaapaR pahirahu khim kaa ||
ਐਸਾ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਿਮ ਕਾ ॥
aaisaa seegaar mere prabh bhaavai har laagai piaaraa piram kaa ||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਇਕ ਪਲਕਾ ॥
har har naam bolahu dhin raatee sabh kilabikh kaaTai ik palakaa ||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਉਪਰਿ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਿਣਕਾ ॥੨੧॥
har har dhiaal hovai jis upar so gurmukh har jap jinakaa ||21||
English Translation
RAAG SOOHEE, THIRD MEHL, TENTH HOUSE:
ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:
Do not praise the world; it shall simply pass away. Do not praise other people; they shall die and turn to dust. || 1 ||
Waaho! Waaho! Hail, hail to my Lord and Master. As Gurmukh, forever praise the One who is forever True, Independent and Carefree. || 1 || Pause ||
Making worldly friendships, the self-willed manmukhs burn and die. In the City of Death, they are bound and gagged and beaten; this opportunity shall never come again. || 2 ||
The lives of the Gurmukhs are fruitful and blessed; they are committed to the True Word of the Shabad. Their souls are illuminated by the Lord, and they dwell in peace and pleasure. || 3 ||
Those who forget the Word of the Guru’s Shabad are engrossed in the love of duality. Their hunger and thirst never leave them, and night and day, they wander around burning. || 4 ||
Those who make friendships with the wicked, and harbor animosity to the Saints, shall drown with their families, and their entire lineage shall be obliterated. || 5 ||
It is not good to slander anyone, but the foolish, self-willed manmukhs still do it. The faces of the slanderers turn black, and they fall into the most horrible hell. || 6 ||
O mind, as you serve, so do you become, and so are the deeds that you do. Whatever you yourself plant, that is what you shall have to eat; nothing else can be said about this. || 7 ||
The speech of the great spiritual beings has a higher purpose. They are filled to over-flowing with Ambrosial Nectar, and they have absolutely no greed at all. || 8 ||
The virtuous accumulate virtue, and teach others. Those who meet with them are so very fortunate; night and day, they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. || 9 ||
He who created the Universe, gives sustenance to it. The One Lord alone is the Great Giver. He Himself is the True Master. || 10 ||
That True Lord is always with you; the Gurmukh is blessed with His Glance of Grace. He Himself shall forgive you, and merge you into Himself; forever cherish and contemplate God. || 11 ||
The mind is impure; only the True Lord is pure. So how can it merge into Him? God merges it into Himself, and then it remains merged; through the Word of His Shabad, the ego is burnt away. || 12 ||
Cursed is the life in this world, of one who forgets her True Husband Lord. The Lord grants His Mercy, and she does not forget Him, if she contemplates the Guru’s Teachings. || 13 ||
The True Guru unites her, and so she remains united with Him, with the True Lord enshrined within her heart. And so united, she will not be separated again; she remains in the love and affection of the Guru. || 14 ||
I praise my Husband Lord, contemplating the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. Meeting with my Beloved, I have found peace; I am His most beautiful and happy soul-bride. || 15 ||
The mind of the self-willed manmukh is not softened; his consciousness is totally polluted and stone-hearted. Even if the venomous snake is fed on milk, it shall still be filled with poison. || 16 ||
He Himself does — who else should I ask? He Himself is the Forgiving Lord. Through the Guru’s Teachings, filth is washed away, and then, one is embellished with the ornament of Truth. || 17 ||
True is the Banker, and True are His traders. The false ones cannot remain there. They do not love the Truth — they are consumed by their pain. || 18 ||
The world wanders around in the filth of egotism; it dies, and is re-born, over and again. He acts in accordance with the karma of his past actions, which no one can erase. || 19 ||
But if he joins the Society of the Saints, then he comes to embrace love for the Truth. Praising the True Lord with a truthful mind, he becomes true in the Court of the True Lord. || 20 ||
The Teachings of the Perfect Guru are perfect; meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, day and night. Egotism and self-conceit are terrible diseases; tranquility and stillness come from within. || 21 ||
I praise my Guru; bowing down to Him again and again, I fall at His Feet. I place my body and mind in offering unto Him, eradicating self-conceit from within. || 22 ||
Indecision leads to ruin; focus your attention on the One Lord. Renounce egotism and self-conceit, and remain merged in Truth. || 23 ||
Those who meet with the True Guru are my Siblings of Destiny; they are committed to the True Word of the Shabad. Those who merge with the True Lord shall not be separated again; they are judged to be True in the Court of the Lord. || 24 ||
They are my Siblings of Destiny, and they are my friends, who serve the True Lord. They sell off their sins and demerits like straw, and enter into the partnership of virtue. || 25 ||
In the partnership of virtue, peace wells up, and they perform true devotional worship service. They deal in Truth, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and they earn the profit of the Naam. || 26 ||
Gold and silver may be earned by committing sins, but they will not go with you when you die. Nothing will go with you in the end, except the Name; all are plundered by the Messenger of Death. || 27 ||
The Lord’s Name is the nourishment of the mind; cherish it, and preserve it carefully within your heart. This nourishment is inexhaustible; it is always with the Gurmukhs. || 28 ||
O mind, if you forget the Primal Lord, you shall depart, having lost your honor. This world is engrossed in the love of duality; follow the Guru’s Teachings, and meditate on the True Lord. || 29 ||
The Lord’s value cannot be estimated; the Lord’s Praises cannot be written down. When one’s mind and body are attuned to the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one remains merged in the Lord. || 30 ||
My Husband Lord is playful; He has imbued me with His Love, with natural ease. The soul-bride is imbued with His Love, when her Husband Lord merges her into His Being. || 31 ||
Even those who have been separated for so very long, are reunited with Him, when they serve the True Guru. The nine treasures of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are deep within the nucleus of the self; consuming them, they are still never exhausted. Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, with natural ease. || 32 ||
They are not born, and they do not die; they do not suffer in pain. Those who are protected by the Guru are saved. They celebrate with the Lord. || 33 ||
Those who are united with the Lord, the True Friend, are not separated again; night and day, they remain blended with Him. In this world, only a rare few are known, O Nanak, to have obtained the True Lord. || 34 || 1 || 3 ||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦ ਨਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ। ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਵਡਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਫਿਰ, ਖ਼ਲਕਤ ਭੀ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ।੧।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਧੰਨ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।੧। ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੜ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।) ਅੰਤ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਥੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ) ਸਮਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਾਨਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤੇ੍ਰਹ ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।੪।
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੈੜੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਗੰਢੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹੋਰ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਡੋਬ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੫।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹ ਬਦਨਾਮੀ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੬।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਇਂਗਾ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕਰਮ-ਭੂਮੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ) ਆਪ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਫਲ ਖਾਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।੭।
(ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਾਲੇ) ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਰਸੰਗ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ (ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੁੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।੮।
ਉਹ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦਾ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਣ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਗੁਣ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੋ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੯।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਅਪੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹੀ ਆਪ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਭੀ) ਹੈ।੧੦।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖ ਲੈ। (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ।੧੧।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ, (ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਲਾ ਰਹੇ, ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜੀਵ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।੧੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦਾ) ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਉਥੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਛੜਦਾ।੧੪।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ। ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟ ਲਈ।੧੫।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਿੱਜਦਾ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਉਂਦਾ)। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਕਠੋਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇ ਸੱਪ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਧ ਭੀ ਪਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧੬।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਚੰਗਾ ਜਾਂ ਮੰਦਾ) ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ) ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।੧੭।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਸਰਮਾਏ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ) ਸ਼ਾਹ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੀ ਅੱਟਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੂੜੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕ ਸਕਦੇ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੧੮।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਉਮੈਂ (ਦੀ ਮੈਲ) ਨਾਲ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਗਤ ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਿਛਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਓਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਣੀ ਇਸ ਫਾਹੀ ਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।੧੯।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ।੨੦।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਕਾਈ-ਹੀਣ ਹੈ। (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਵਡੇ ਰੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨੧।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਾਂ, ਨਿਊਂ ਨਿਊਂ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾਂ, ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋ ਹੁੳਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ।੨੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਡਾਂਵਾਂ-ਡੋਲ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ। ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ, ਮਮਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ। (ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤਦੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮੇਰੇ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਰਾ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਫਿਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਦੇ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਟਿਕੇ ਹੋਏ) ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।੨੪।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਰਾ ਹਨ ਸੱਜਣ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਗੁਣਾ, ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ) ਅਉਗਣ ਵਿਕ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ (ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨੫।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਸਾਂਝ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਦਾ) ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ।੨੬।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ) ਪਾਪ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਚਾਂਦੀ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਨ) ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ (ਉਹ ਧਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੁੰਞੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਹੱਥੀ ਲੁੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲੁਟਾ ਬੈਠਦੀ ਹੈ)।੨੭।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦਾ) ਖਰਚ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਫ਼ਰ-ਖਰਚ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖੋ। ਇਹ ਖਰਚ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨੮।
ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ, ਤਾਂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ। ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੋਹ ਛੱਡ, ਅਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ।੨੯।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੩੦।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਨੰਦ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ (ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ) ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩੧।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਚਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਆ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਜੋ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਨੌਂ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨਾਮ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੁੰ ਵੰਡਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ। ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੩੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆ ਪਏ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਹ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਗਏ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।੩੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਦੇ। ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਹੀ ਉੱਘੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।੩੪।੧।੩।
