ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ikOankaar sat naam karataa purakh nirabhau niravair akaal moorat ajoonee saibha(n) gur prasaadh ||
ਰਾਗੁ ਗੋਂਡ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥
raag go(n)dd chaupadhe mahalaa chauthhaa ghar pehilaa ||
ਜੇ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਸ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਾ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਫਲ ਪਾਈ ॥
je man chit aas rakheh har uoopar taa man chi(n)dhe anek anek fal paiee ||
ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜੋ ਜੀਇ ਵਰਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
har jaanai sabh kichh jo jeei varatai prabh ghaaliaa kisai kaa ik til na gavaiee ||
ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
har tis kee aas keejai man mere jo sabh meh suaamee rahiaa samaiee ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
mere man aasaa kar jagadhees gusaiee ||
ਜੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਸ ਅਵਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਾ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਆਸ ਸਭ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo bin har aas avar kaahoo kee keejai saa nihafal aas sabh birathee jaiee ||1|| rahaau ||
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਮਤ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਲਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
jo dheesai maiaa moh kuTa(n)b sabh mat tis kee aas lag janam gavaiee ||
ਇਨੑ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਇਨੑ ਕਾ ਵਾਹਿਆ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
ein(h) kai kichh haath nahee kahaa kareh ieh bapuRe in(h) kaa vaahiaa kachh na vasaiee ||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੁਝੁ ਤਾਰੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੨॥
mere man aas kar har preetam apune kee jo tujh taarai teraa kuTa(n)b sabh chhaddaiee ||2||
ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਸ ਅਵਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰਮਿਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਤ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਆਈ ॥
je kichh aas avar kareh paramitree mat too(n) jaaneh terai kitai ka(n)m aaiee ||
ਇਹ ਆਸ ਪਰਮਿਤ੍ਰੀ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਝੂਠੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਈ ॥
eeh aas paramitree bhaau dhoojaa hai khin meh jhooTh binas sabh jaiee ||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
mere man aasaa kar har preetam saache kee jo teraa ghaaliaa sabh thai paiee ||3||
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਤੂ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਕੋ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
aasaa manasaa sabh teree mere suaamee jaisee too aas karaaveh taisee ko aas karaiee ||
ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਸੀ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਐਸੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
kichh kisee kai hath naahee mere suaamee aaisee merai satigur boojh bujhaiee ||
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਤੂ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥
jan naanak kee aas too jaaneh har dharasan dhekh har dharasan tirapataiee ||4||1||
English Translation
One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace:
Raag Gond, Chau-Padhay, Fourth Mehla, First House:
If, in his conscious mind, he places his hopes in the Lord, then he shall obtain the fruits of all the many desires of his mind.
The Lord knows everything which happens to the soul. Not even an iota of one's effort goes to waste.
Place your hopes in the Lord, O my mind; the Lord and Master is pervading and permeating all. ||1||
O my mind, place your hopes in the Lord of the World, the Master of the Universe.
That hope which is placed in any other than the Lord - that hope is fruitless, and totally useless. ||1||Pause||
That which you can see, Maya, and all attachment to family - don't place your hopes in them, or your life will be wasted and lost.
Nothing is in their hands; what can these poor creatures do? By their actions, nothing can be done.
O my mind, place your hopes in the Lord, your Beloved, who shall carry you across, and save your whole family as well. ||2||
If you place your hopes in any other, in any friend other than the Lord, then you shall come to know that it is of no use at all.
This hope placed in other friends comes from the love of duality. In an instant, it is gone; it is totally false.
O my mind, place your hopes in the Lord, your True Beloved, who shall approve and reward you for all your efforts. ||3||
Hope and desire are all Yours, O my Lord and Master. As You inspire hope, so are the hopes held.
Nothing is in the hands of anyone, O my Lord and Master; such is the understanding the True Guru has given me to understand.
You alone know the hope of servant Nanak, O Lord; gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, he is satisfied. ||4||1||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ, ਰਚਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ। ਉਹ ਨਿਡੱਰ, ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨੀ ਰਹਿਤ ਅਜਨਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਵੈ-ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਵਾਨ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਗ ਗੋਂਡ ਚਉਪਜੇ ਚੌਥੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਰੱਖੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੇ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ ।
ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ।੧।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ (ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ।
। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਭੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਰੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਸ ਸਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਆਸ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜੋ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਾਹ ਗਵਾ ਲਈਂ ।
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ । ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ? ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਸਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ।
ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ, ਉਹੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਤੋਂ) ਛੁਡਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਬਣਾਏਂਗਾ, ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਂ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਵੇਗੀ ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਦੂਜਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਸਫਲ ਕਰੇਗਾ ।੩।
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਆਸਾਂ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਵੱਸ ਨਹੀਂ—ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਆਪਣੇ) ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਧਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ) ਆਸ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਉਹ ਤਾਂਘ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹੇ ।੪।੧।
