ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ਘਰੁ ੧੧
bilaaval mahalaa chauthhaa asaTapadheeaa ghar gayaarvaa
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ikOankaar satigur prasaadh ||
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਖਾਇ ਹਉ ਮੇਟੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਗੀਤ ਗਵਈਆ ॥
aapai aap khai hau meTai anadhin har ras geet gavieeaa ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਈਆ ॥੧॥
gurmukh parachai ka(n)chan kaiaa nirabhau jotee jot milieeaa ||1||
ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਰਮਈਆ ॥
mai har har naam adhaar ramieeaa ||
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਠ ਪੜਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਏਕੁ ਗਿਰਹੁ ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਤਸਕਰ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਲਗਈਆ ॥
ek girahu dhas dhuaar hai jaa ke ahinis tasakar pa(n)ch chor lagieeaa ||
ਧਰਮੁ ਅਰਥੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਿਰਿ ਲੇ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਈਆ ॥੨॥
dharam arath sabh hir le jaaveh manmukh a(n)dhule khabar na pieeaa ||2||
ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋਟੁ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣਕਿ ਭਰਿਆ ਜਾਗੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਤਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਈਆ ॥
ka(n)chan koT bahu maanak bhariaa jaage giaan tat liv lieeaa ||
ਤਸਕਰ ਹੇਰੂ ਆਇ ਲੁਕਾਨੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਕੜਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੩॥
tasakar heroo aai lukaane gur kai sabadh pakaR ba(n)dh pieeaa ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੋਤੁ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਖੇਵਟੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਈਆ ॥
har har naam pot bohithaa khevaT sabadh gur paar la(n)ghieeaa ||
ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਚੋਰੁ ਲਗਈਆ ॥੪॥
jam jaagaatee neR na aavai naa ko tasakar chor lagieeaa ||4||
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਹਤੇ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਲਹੀਆ ॥
har gun gaavai sadhaa dhin raatee mai har jas kahate a(n)t na laheeaa ||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਮਿਲਉ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ਬਜਈਆ ॥੫॥
gurmukh manooaa ikat ghar aavai milau guopaal neesaan bajieeaa ||5||
ਨੈਨੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੈ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਈਆ ॥
nainee dhekh dharas man tirapatai sravan baanee gur sabadh sunieeaa ||
ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਆਤਮ ਦੇਵ ਹੈ ਭੀਨੇ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਮ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਰਵਈਆ ॥੬॥
sun sun aatam dhev hai bheene ras ras raam gopaal ravieeaa ||6||
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਤੁਰੀਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਹੀਆ ॥

ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਸਰਈਆ ॥੭॥
ek dhirasaT sabh sam kar jaanai nadharee aavai sabh braham pasarieeaa ||7||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਈਆ ॥
raam naam hai jot sabaiee gurmukh aape alakh lakhieeaa ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੪॥

English Translation
BILAAVAL, FOURTH MEHL, ASHTAPADEES, ELEVENTH HOUSE:
ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:
One who eliminates his self-centeredness, and eradicates his ego, night and day sings the songs of the Lord’s Love. The Gurmukh is inspired, his body is golden, and his light merges into the Light of the Fearless Lord. || 1 ||
I take the Support of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. I cannot live, for a moment, even for an instant, without the Name of the Lord; the Gurmukh reads the Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har. || 1 || Pause ||
In the one house of the body, there are ten gates; night and day, the five thieves break in. They steal the entire wealth of one’s Dharmic faith, but the blind, self-willed manmukh does not know it. || 2 ||
The fortress of the body is overflowing with gold and jewels; when it is awakened by spiritual wisdom, one enshrines love for the essence of reality. The thieves and robbers hide out in the body; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, they are arrested and locked up. || 3 ||
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is the boat, and the Word of the Guru’s Shabad is the boatman, to carry us across. The Messenger of Death, the tax collector, does not even come close, and no thieves or robbers can plunder you. || 4 ||
I continuously sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, day and night; singing the Lord’s Praises, I cannot find His limits. The mind of the Gurmukh returns to its own home; it meets the Lord of the Universe, to the beat of the celestial drum. || 5 ||
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan with my eyes, my mind is satisfied; with my ears, I listen to the Guru’s Bani, and the Word of His Shabad. Listening, listening, my soul is softened, delighted by His subtle essence, chanting the Name of the Lord of the Universe. || 6 ||
In the grip of the three qualities, they are engrossed in love and attachment to Maya; only as Gurmukh do they find the absolute quality, absorption in bliss. With a single, impartial eye, look upon all alike, and see God pervading all. || 7 ||
The Light of the Lord’s Name permeates all; the Gurmukh knows the unknowable. O Nanak, the Lord has become merciful to the meek; through loving adoration, he merges in the Lord’s Name. || 8 || 1 || 4 ||
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)
ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ)! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ।(ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸ (ਤਾਕਿ) ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਣ; ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ, ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਾ ਪਾ ਸਕੇ ।(ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ!) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਏ ।(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ।ਹੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਦਇਆ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ।੧।
ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੈਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ । ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾਤੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਉਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਸ ਖਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਪੀਂਦਿਆਂ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰ ।ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੰਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਾਂ, ਨਾਮ (ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ) ਉਚਾਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਾਂ।੨।
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ) ਮਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਜਗਤ (ਹੀ) ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬੜੇ ਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ (ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ) ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਸੀਬ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਿਸਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਮਾਣ ਲਏ ਹਨ ।ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਧੜੇ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੮।
